About

I'm a perfectionist and I make every item as if it's for myself!

Thank you for stopping by and for the interest in learning more about my shop.
On New Years Day 2014 I made several resolutions for the new year. I made myself a braided leather wrap bracelet with a charm to help me resist temptation. I sent a photo of the bracelet to my daughter April. The email she sent back said "Oh Mom, it's beautiful! You should make more and sell them!"
I have hand made things my entire life and I'm not the type of person to sit idle. So after thinking about this for several days I started making plans.
At the time I didn't know I would open a shop with Etsy. But I did know I wanted to have plenty of these charm bracelets finished before I took the next step.
I made 3 bracelets before turning in a new direction. The variety of beads today is astounding! After walking through my local hobby shop the decision was made - I wanted to work with beads.
After a little research I knew Etsy was the place to be. I opened my account in April 2014, to learn what I needed to know about opening a shop. I opened my shop December 30, 2014.
Jewelry makes us feel beautiful! I believe the stones and metals used in making our jewelry can also help heal and calm, warn and protect, help awaken intuition and creativeness and much more. I believe, in other words, our jewelry can enpower us.
Just the thought of beginning a new project excites me! For more inspiration I turn to visuals. Looking through my bead boxes, seeing an interesting necklace on someone or reading a jewelry "how-to" book will get my creative wheels turning.
First I choose my beads. Then I collect wire, clasp, crimps and my tools.
Time to inspect and sort my beads. Natural stones I sort from smallest to largest. That way I know exactly what I'm working with. Sorting this way takes longer but makes it much easier to string. Seed beads vary in thickness and I want every bead in a project to be uniform. So yes, I really do hand pick every bead.
I'm ready to string. During the stringing process I'll add differant colors or sizes of beads or spacers to highlight and/or separate. I will restring several times until I'm satisfied.
A finished item is always protected. It will be placed in a protective bag for storage.
I usually make a necklace first then add a bracelet and earrings to make a set. But I do plan on making shop sections for solo items.
I believe everything should have a name. As I'm working on an item the colors/textures begin to remind me of something. Or I'll have a sudden thought for a name. This is why and how I name the items I make.
The next step in production is photos. I built myself a Light Tent on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Now I can photograph anytime and my photos are more consistent. But photography is a skill that requires constant practice. I know there is always room for improvement. I learn something new during every photo session.
For me writing the product description is the final step before publishing a listing.
Finally ready to list my new item! It's very exciting to publish a listing and see it the way a shopper will see it!
I run all aspects of my business from designing to shipping. But I have alot of help from my family in other areas. I've consulted with my husband Ed, my mom Tillie and my sister Paula on many topics. My daughters, Jessica and April, have modeled for photographs and gave their opinions many times. My 5 year old grandson Tony keeps me forever young and always tells me how beautiful I am! My brother Mike and sister in law Rae have contributed many beautiful gemstones that are waiting to be set into rings. I love you all and Thank You for your support!
In the future I'm adding a ring section to my shop and more wood and bone carved jewelry.
