About cheekysewandsew

Sewing! And more sewing! Some designing, some teaching and a lot of making.

I have been sewing all my life from being a child, it runs in my family. I also love just messing with clothes, upcycling, bleaching, batik dyeing, all sorts! It has always been an interest of mine from my teenage years onwards but I got more and more interested and started making more and more clothing and upcycling clothes into new garments.
12 years ago I started selling some of the things I made, in response to requests from friends, acquaintances and even my jewellery tutor wanted an upcycled skirt.

I started my Etsy shop up shortly after this, then a bricks and mortar 'shop' although this mostly functioned as a workshop that was open to the public, and I sold my clothing and ran sewing and dressmaking courses there. This lasted for 9 years and then earlier on this year I moved to a smaller studio space, not open to the public, as I felt I wanted to focus more on what I wanted to make, and less on what people wanted me to make! I have got more into my upcycling too, although this was what I originally got into decades ago so I feel like I'm coming back to myself a bit in a way!

I love my little studio, I am very happy there and I am feeling the most creative I have for years. This Etsy shop is now my main shop space so I'll be putting a lot more on here. Keep your eyes peeled!!

I have always loved sewing and upcycling and vintage clothes. I love my studio and I enjoy sewing and messing with textiles and clothing. Tweed, denim and velvet are favourites and upcycling, mostly inner tubes and jeans, feature heavily in my work.
