The Story of My Shop

"Chelsea, you don’t paint pictures, you paint souls."

This quote is one of my favorite ever responses to my work. I love capturing the personality and life within each individual animal I paint.

I am a watercolor painter and illustrator, specializing in custom pet portraits and prints. All original paintings are handmade by me in my home studio.

    I received a BFA in Art Education from UIUC in 2008 and completed a year abroad in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths University of London in 2006-07. I've had a lifelong love for creating art, and my grandma taught me watercolors when I was very little.

    Mačka (pronounced match-ka) is a 9-year-old kitty adopted from PAWS Chicago. Her greatest passions are naps, cuddles and chasing bugs. Mačka is a true lady, and her shop responsibilities include both inspiration and moral support.

    Alfie is a 2-year-old tuxedo cat adopted from Seattle Humane. He is full of energy and a thrill seeker on the cat tower, but when it's time to nap he's all cuddles. Alfie's shop responsibilities include photos in funny poses and yowling for pets.

Returns and exchange details
Your business and happiness is so important to me! Please contact me if you are unhappy with your order within 30 days of receiving it - I will work to resolve the issue as soon as possible with either a replacement, exchange or refund as appropriate.

Most custom work is not eligible for a complete return or exchange, but some custom returns/exchanges will be considered on a case-by-case basis. I want you to love your painting, so please get in touch if you are unhappy for any reason!

Please note all CLEARANCE items cannot be returned or exchanged.

Payment
All orders except custom paintings may be cancelled within 12 hours of ordering.

Custom work may be cancelled any time before approval of a final sketch. Once the sketch is approved, I do not accept cancellations for custom work.
Shipping
Please check tracking on the USPS website directly - sometimes it may take a little time for tracking info to update on Etsy.

All orders will ship within the stated processing time, but arrival time is only an estimate from USPS. If you need an item by a certain date please add a shipping upgrade and send me a message to let me know the date.

For custom work, please refer to the listing's processing time info or message me for an exact estimate. The processing time listed can be longer than it will actually take to make your work - message me if you're in a crunch!

Paintings and prints are shipped in a waterproof plastic sleeve in a 12.75 x 15 in. bend-proof rigid photo mailer.

Cards are shipped in a waterproof plastic sleeve in a 6 x 8 in. bend-proof rigid photo mailer.

I use USPS with tracking (tracking numbers will be added to shipping confirmations) to ship all purchases except stickers, which are sent first class with a stamp.
Privacy
Information I Collect

To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorized Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom painting, for example), if you contact me directly.


Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It

I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:

as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfil your order, including any additional information for custom orders, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
when you have provided your affirmative consent, which you may revoke at any time, such as by signing up for my mailing list or following me on social media;
if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and
as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as 1) providing and improving my services. I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest toimprove my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.


Information Sharing and Disclosure

Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:

Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
Service providers. I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
Business transfers. If I sell or merge my business, I may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law.
Compliance with laws. Data Retention

I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for the following time period: 2 years.


Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU

I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, I may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If I am deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, I rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as Google Cloud is Privacy Shield certified.


Your Rights

Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.

Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

Which pictures work best for pet portraits?

Making sure your pet's face can be clearly seen is the most important part, so choose photos showing all of their cute face without any obstructions.

Can I specify if I want my portrait to include my pet's full body or just their head?

Yes! Please let me know your preference when you message the photos to me. Make sure your photos include everything you want it in your painting!

I want a painting in a bigger or smaller size than what's available on your pet portrait or custom painting listings. Is that possible?

Yes! Absolutely. I can do almost any size of custom painting and always love to try something new! Please use the "Request a custom order" link on either the listing itself or on the left side bar of my shop homepage to get started on your custom order.

Please note: prices and production time will vary with size.

I would like to order prints in a different size than what's available in the listing. Is that possible?

Yes! All prints (except giclee prints) can be made in a wide range of sizes.

What does it mean when a listing has "PRE-ORDER" in the title?

Pre-order means that the product is not yet in stock, so production times are a little longer than usual. If a rush order is required it may be possible with an additional fee. Please message me with any questions!
