Announcement    See something you like ... but want it slightly different? Talk to me about making something perfect for you!

PLEASE CHECK WITH US TO BE CERTAIN WE HAVE THE SIZE IN THE COLOR YOU'RE LOOKING FOR ... or we can always do a custom order. (When Etsy recently changed their system, it removed all the size/color combinations we had painstakingly listed for each sweater and changed it to just colors without our realizing it. It will likely be months before we are able to find the time to redo all this. In the meantime, it's necessary for you to check with us to be certain we have the color sweater in the size you want before ordering. In most cases, if we do not have it in stock, we can make it for you. Custom order sweaters do incur a shipping charge and cannot receive sale prices, but you have the advantage of having it made specifically to fit YOU. We apologize for the inconvenience.)

Thanks for your order! If you are not in the habit of checking your Etsy messages on a regular basis, could you please take a moment right now to send me a message with an alternate way to reach you, in case I have questions? An email address or a number where I can text you would be ideal! Thank you so much! Regards, Bill

About

Individually Handmade Quality Knitware in Classic Styles from 100% Natural Fibers

My late wife, Beth, and I started creating garments for men and women 35 years ago, hand-knitting design prototype and production work for Perry Ellis and other of the New York designer-types. After 10 years of the pressures of designer knitting, we moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the rural peninsula across the Chesapeake Bay from Baltimore. We're blessed with close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the Chesapeake Bay, and the historic Chester River. Beth and I began a retail store, where we made and sold sweaters for men, women, and children directly to people like you. We also did custom sizing and custom design work for many of our customers, who ordered from us again and again.

After Beth passed away, I chose to keep the business going because I really love knitting. I closed the shop 8 years ago, due to the stress of having a store. Now, I miss knitting, so at 74 years of age and newly remarried, I've dusted off my hand-operated machines and am making individual sweaters once again from my home. I knit in 100% natural fibers only: Several wools, cotton, spun silk, alpaca, cashmere, and a cotton-flax blend.

I get the biggest charge in the world out of making a sweater for a real person -- someone whose name I know. I will design sweaters according to your own measurements and style specifications, upon request. Many of the yarns come in a variety of colors. If you don't see what you want, just ask! If you would like a style that you don't see, call me up and let's talk about it. I love to design something that is perfect and special for each customer.

I use four hand-operated knitting machines in my smoke-free home. Two double-bed machines knit ribbing in several weights. One flat-bed machine is 7-cut, and knits a lighter-weight sweater, which can be worn all year long and is light enough to go under a jacket. The other flat-bed machine is 4-cut, and knits a wonderful winter-weight wool sweater or a cotton sweater you can wear 9 months out of the year. One of the double-bed machines was manufactured in Switzerland in 1942. The other double-bed machine came from a sweater mill in the South Bronx that made high school/college letter sweaters. This machine was manufactured in Brooklyn sometime in the 1890s. The machines that I use to knit are very simple machines, so any of the design elements in the sweaters are done by moving stitches around on the needles of the machines by hand.

SIZES:

Please note that our in-stock sweaters are made according to the chest or bust size. If your waist or hips are bigger than your chest (for men) or your bust (for ladies) you will want to either:

~ Order according to whichever measurement is larger. Or
~ Request a custom sweater made to your measurements.

Also keep in mind that some people like their sweaters loose and some like them more fitted. For example, Bill measures as a medium, but he likes to wear large or XL because he likes a much looser fit. Always feel free to contact us for the measurements of a particular sweater. It helps if, before you contact us, you measure the chest on a sweater you have that, of which you love the fit.

Please note that the following sizes are in inches. These are body measurements, NOT garment measurements.

MEN'S SIZES (In inches, at the largest part of the chest)
Small 34-36. Medium 38-40. Large 42-44. XL 46-48. 2X 50-52. 3X 54-56.

LADIES' SIZES (In inches, at the largest part of bust)
XS/Petite 34. Small 35-36. Medium 37-38-1/2. Large 40-41-1/2. XL 43-1/2 to 45-1/2. 2X 45-47. 3X 49-53.

Also note that most sweaters are really unisex. Here are the size equivalents:

Men's Small = Ladies' Large
Men's Medium = Ladies' XL
Men's Large = Ladies' 2X
Men's XL = Ladies' 3X

Cardigans are the exception because the buttons are on different sizes for men and for women. If this doesn't matter to you, then you have more choice of in-stock cardigans. If it does matter and you don't see what you want, ask us to make one for you.

SHIPPING DATES:

All of our ship-by dates are an estimated date, and are not an exact date of finishing. These products may take a longer or shorter time than estimated. I make these sweaters on vintage hand-operated machines which are very temperamental and need constant adjusting. If something isn’t turning out right, I rip it out and start over -- even if the garment is complete. If you have a specific occasion and date that you need the sweater, please ask me ahead of time, so I can tell you whether it’s a reasonable expectation and I can make every effort to get it to you by that time.

RETURN POLICY:

My desire is to make sweaters for you that will be your absolute favorites for many years. I want you to be more than satisfied with your purchase … but because I’m running a business, I need to have some reasonable policies in place regarding returns.

To avoid potential returns, please be positive that your item is a proper fit for you. We recommend that you take measurements on a favorite sweater that fits the way you want this sweater to fit and compare it with a sweater we have listed (ask us for the exact measurements of the sweater), or let me make you one to your measurements. Before you take any measurements for a custom order, I will need to talk to you and explain the measurements I need and how they should be taken. Feel free to ask any questions that you have before purchasing either an in-stock sweater or one that is custom made -- we want you to be overjoyed with your purchase. We will gladly measure for you or take additional photographs.

If you would like to return an in-stock item, you must contact us within 3 days of receiving the item and ship the item back within 3 to 5 DAYS of receiving the item. We get a tracking number with each item when we ship and are able to tell when you’ve received it. We will be happy to refund your purchase minus what it cost us to ship it to you and minus a restocking fee of $15 (it takes more work than you imagine to restock it). If you would like to exchange the item, we will waive the restocking fee for the first exchange, but you will need to pay the shipping for an exchange to be sent to you. If a return is necessary because of our error, we will happily exchange it.

Refunds for custom made orders depend on many factors, such as how unique the sweater is (which determines whether we will be able to sell it to someone else). Talk to me BEFORE your sweater is ordered, so that I can tell you whether or not it will be returnable and under what conditions, and you can make a wise choice about whether you would like to proceed with having a custom sweater made.
