Lovely pillow arrived quickly. There was a mixup with the feather insert but Jennifer resolved it speedily. Great interaction and will definitely shop here again!

Absolutely Horrible Seller. Buyer Beware. What a Scam. I purchased and instantly paid for this 4yards of vibrant pink wax fabric at the asking price of $16 per yard ( total $64 + $6 shipping), then seller refunded my payment and LIED that item was already sold out. And has now re-listed the same item for more money, and has completely ignored all communication with me. I've been polite and courteous the entire time and was even willing to re-purchase. I've never left a negative review but this seller completely lacks integrity and leaves me no choice. Very Dishonest and Very Greedy. Never again.

About

Welcome to Chez Bohème!

The Chez Bohème décor concept is deeply rooted in my personal experiences of travel, adventure, art and family. As a young nurse with a graduate diploma in tropical medicine, I've lived and worked with refugees in countries like Ethiopia, Malawi, Sudan and the Philippines. It was through these intimate encounters with exotic landscapes, diverse cultural traditions and the humbling realities of the human condition that a personal taste for vivid color and strong pattern was confirmed by the legitimate beauty of tribal craft and artistry. Further travels to magical places like Mauritania, Guatemala, Russia, Morocco, Egypt, Burundi, Thailand, Honduras, South Korea and India, have nourished this penchant is for beautiful, colorful, hand-made things. Be it through textiles, statues, wall-painting or furniture design, wherever art serves as a primary means of communicating, it seems to “emote” on a universal level. Created for celebrating spirituality, joy or grief, rite of passage, clan affiliation or social rank, the decorative handiwork that derives from shared purpose within a community retains a primary, touching beauty. From the most rudimentary block print to the finest embroidery, I am always comforted and inspired by the sense of story.

As a wife and mother, I first lived on the Mediterranean coast of France for 18 years, where I began painting, acting and studying art therapy. There, with the handsome Parisian husband I met in Khartoum, Sudan and our three beloved children, I was emboldened by both the French romance with art and what is rightfully called “art de vivre” - a lifestyle model that allows for paradox, embracing both the traditional and the trendy, the simple and the elegant, the antique and the contemporary. We restored an idyllic property on the sea, where, determined to respect both the home's age and regional traditions, we filled it with old terra cotta tiles and drenched the walls in chalky ochres, oranges and rusts before furnishing with informal antiques and bright kilims. With such strong color as a backdrop, I discovered how little else we needed to feel “at home” and how everything looked so beautiful against it. Our home exuded a feeling of “happiness”, and paint has been a dear friend ever since!

We moved to Vermont in 2002, where an old farmhouse became home. With lime green, boysenberry, melon, lavender and lemon on the walls, I began painting old furniture for added spunk and our eclectic array of treasures collected from globe-trotting travels was easily dispersed throughout. Far from being a calculated formula, or “look”, it seemed a signature style had nonetheless emerged; a style characterized by a delightful fusion of old and new, of diverse objects, patterns, textures and hues that, to my eye, amounted to the aesthetics of joy.

To share the fun, I opened a boutique in Shelburne, Vt. in 2010, and called it Chez Bohème. In 2015, the brick and mortar store has since moved to a barn on my property in Charlotte, Vt. with hours by appointment 7 days/week. The French name is in homage to my many years in and love for France, suggesting the Bohemian notions of travel, living for art, a passion for color and a disdain for convention. The gypsy wagon is, indeed, an inspiration, but so is the Uzbek yurt, the Kenyan market, the Guatemalan loom, the Indian sari, a fresh bouquet of wildflowers.....

Chez Bohème is an adventure for your home, from me to you! Come find a treasure. It may be a sculpted coffee tray from Ethiopia, a 1930's dresser gayly re-finished in turquoise, a Turkish kilim just dancing with color, a mid-century armchair upholstered in Mali mudcloth, a bold Suzani tapestry, an antique French lamp topped with an Ikat silk lampshade.....Bring a sense of humor and your own eye for color and beautiful things. You'll see how magically it all falls together.

A bientôt,

Jenny
