Chicks n Hens, Illustration Co.

I'm Liz- the founder, illustrator, and creative spirit behind Chicks n Hens. The name Chicks n Hens was inspired by fond memories of my grandma digging up chickens and hens (succulents) from her garden and sharing them with me after summer visits spent painting on her back porch. Her passion and talent for painting has inspired me since childhood.

I create illustrations with vintage vibes, whimsy design elements, and cheerful colors. All of my illustrations begin as a drawing in my sketchbook, and transition to full color artwork ready for printing on my carefully curated card stock selections. Chicks n Hens is based out of Indianapolis, Indiana, where I personally handle every phase of the design process in the Chicks n Hens studio space.

I have dedicated the past 9+ years to illustration work and the wedding industry. In 2012, I graduated with a BFA in Art and Design from Purdue University with the best senior portfolio. My illustration work and custom wedding designs have been featured in large scale publications online and in print on Brides, The Knot, Style Me Pretty, Wedding Day Magazine, Carats and Cake, Emmaline Bride, Exquisite Wed Mag, Bridal Musings, The Etsy Journal, and more.

Working with couples all over the world, my wedding projects range from casual Iowa barn weddings to elegant neoclassical Roman villas, from quaint California churches to large scale beach resort weddings in Puerto Vallarta.

Outside of illustration work, I am a wife and mama of three. <3

+ Packages will automatically ship to the address associated with your Etsy account.
+ In the event that you provide the wrong shipping address, refunds will not be provided for the lost package.
+ All packages from Chicks n Hens are sent with tracking and insurance (except samples).
+ All print orders over $300 will require a signature upon delivery. Please contact me to add or remove this service.
+ I cannot personally guarantee estimated delivery dates provided by the USPS.
+ If your package is lost or damaged during shipment by the USPS I will file a claim with the USPS. The timeframe for the refund or resolution from the USPS is out of my hands beyond that point. In the event that a package is damaged, you must keep all original packaging for the USPS to review and you must contact me within 10 business days of delivery in order for me to file a claim.

+ Sometimes packages are delayed in customs. You will be responsible for any customs fees you may incur.
+ If you are in a hurry to receive your prints, I suggest going with digital files and printing locally.

Additional policies and FAQs


+ *Unless an extended timeline is agreed upon prior to purchase- design fees reserve a spot for your project on my limited calendar for 60 days from the purchase date, or 60 days from the quoted start date for your project. (For example, if I am accepting orders to begin February 2022, you can book anytime up to February and have 60 days from February 1 to return your questionnaire.)
+ In order to maintain a schedule I cannot guarantee availability beyond 60 days from purchase for your project UNLESS you message or email me ahead of purchase and confirm a start date + wedding date for your project to reserve.
+ Refunds will not be provided if fail to return your questionnaire beginning your project within 60 days.
+ If you need to extend this timeline please contact me ASAP to inquire about extending your project reservation. Although not guaranteed, I always try to accommodate scheduling changes whenever possible. Your prompt communication when a wedding date changes, etc. will greatly impact the probability of an extended reservation for your custom project.

For custom save the dates and wedding invitations:
+Design Phase:
- begins when you return your completed questionnaire
- roughly 3-5 weeks for initial samples to be delivered via email
- samples will be delivered via email, check the listing description details of the item you would like to purchase for timing quote

+Revisions Phase:
- begins when you return your revisions form with requested revisions
- roughly 1-3 weeks for execution
- allow for more time if extensive revisions are requested

+ Production Phase (printing):
- skip this phase if you go with digital files to print on your own (check your item description to ensure digital files are available)
- begins when you approve your designs and purchase prints
- roughly 2 weeks from the time prints are purchased and samples approved
- shipment of prints occurs after completion

- Due to the custom nature of my work, please keep in mind all timing quotes are subject to variation.
- Refunds will not be provided if you fail to read the timing for your project prior to purchasing, or if you find the timing will not work for your project after purchase.
- I am unable to rush any portion of the design process without a rush order purchase, which are first come first serve and limited.

+ Guaranteed delivery dates are available with rush orders only.

+ You must adhere to the deadlines to return forms to be eligible for a rush order.
+ Rush orders are subject to cancellations and/or delays if deadlines are missed by client.
+ Refunds will not be provided for rush order fees for any reason.

+ Please decide between prints or the digital files at the time your questionnaire is returned. Orders cannot be changed from print orders to digital file orders or vice versa after the questionnaire is submitted.

+ Samples are ALWAYS available if you would like to feel the paper and see the print quality before placing your full order for prints.
+ Remember, colors can vary slightly from computer to computer, and from the computer to the printer.
+ Chicks n Hens is proud to be considered a "handmade" illustration & print shop. Print dimensions may vary slightly (by a smidge!), as Chicks n Hens prints are each lovingly cut by hand.

+ I own the rights to my designs and illustrations.
+ I reserve the right to display or use the custom design created for you on my main website, social media outlets, etc. I am happy to alter any personal information prior to sharing per your request (such as last names, etc.).
+ Final high-resolution digital files will be sent as flattened PDF and JPEG files meant for printing only. Editable / working / design files are never for sale.
+ Please do not take portions of my designs or illustrations to reuse, alter, resell, or post anywhere without my written permission. These are MY designs, and are meant to be printed exactly as is.
+ Ordering digital files means you or your local print shop will be responsible for the entire printing process including printer settings, color matching, paper selection, document set up, and bleed requirements for the specific printer used, etc. Any of these items are beyond the services provided with digital file orders.
+ You will need to coordinate and communicate with whatever print shop you choose. Communication between Chicks n Hens and a third party printer is not included with digital file orders.

*Sometimes photographs within listings and on my website contain upgrades and additional items not included in the design fee rate. (This can include, but is not limited to: addressed envelopes, vintage stamps, embellishments, props, upgraded designs and / or upgraded envelopes, more detailed illustrations, etc.) These items are meant to show previous projects, upgrade possibilities, illustration add-ons, as well as an example of finished invitations. Please READ the listing description on exactly what is included in the design fee rate.

Frequently asked questions

If I see a design you created for a previous client I would like to reuse for my wedding, can I purchase prints or digital files of that exact design (or only change the illustration of the couple)?

In short, NO. I take pride in creating one-of-a-kind designs for each couple for their special day. If you are in love with a previous design I have created we can work together to create something with a similar vibe, but each wedding design will remain custom and unique.

How do I reserve a spot for my wedding project on your very limited calendar?

First, request a quote for your project here: I will send over a quote and link for your design fee. Purchase the design fee on Etsy and you will have immediate access to download a questionnaire. Purchasing a design fee is the only way to reserve your spot on my limited calendar.

Are prints included in the design fee for each custom illustration?

Prints and/or digital files (if applicable) are a separate fee from the design fee. The design fee is a fee for the creation of your custom illustration, and also a placeholder for your project on my limited schedule. Prints and/or digital files can be purchased after you approve your design samples. (Printing costs are listed in the listing description of each item.)

Can I purchase digital files to email invitation designs to my guests?

NO, I do not offer high resolution digital files to be sent via email. I do offer high resolution digital files for a fee for *most* designs FOR PRINTING only by you or your local print shop, and as keepsakes.

Why aren't you offering add-on items to everyone? (Vintage Stamps, Wax Seals, etc.)

I accept extremely limited custom wedding illustration orders, and am a one person small business. In order to give my wedding clients the care and attention they deserve I do not accept orders for add-on items from anyone except my wedding clients. Thank you for understanding!
