Out of the Ashes: A Riot of Colour...

About Me: Based in Kingston upon Hull in East Yorkshire, I’m Beki, the creative force and craftsperson behind Chimera Crafting. I’m a mother, animal lover, environmentalist, passionate humanitarian and all round geek.

I’ve had a life long interest in fibre arts of all kinds. Felting, hand spinning on drop spindles (and more recently a beautiful spinning wheel), knitting, crochet and dyeing - to name just a few... (Seriously, I could go on!) I have over 25 years of experience with many of these skills. I am truly passionate and dedicated to help keep these crafts alive, in my own small way. When I practice these skills I feel a real sense of connectedness - there’s something to be said about working with natural things.

How it Started: Due to personal circumstances changing significantly during 2019, becoming self employed and being able to work during hours that suit me was a logical decision - I am a worker bee by nature! When those needs become combined with my resourcefulness, passions for; sustainability, rare breed sheep fibre (and all natural fibres used in textiles), fibre arts, COLOUR and other ancient crafts and skills - well, that’s a marriage made in heaven! I’m VERY proud to share my small venture with you all.

Why “Chimera” Crafting? A Chimera is a mythological creature that is an animal made up of multiple other animals. Other than being one of my favourite mythological beasts, I felt is was a great symbol to represent what I do. I intend to sell more than one type of craft, so having a multi “beinged” beastie as my logo felt like a very good fit.

What Next? After I launch my Etsy shop, I plan on building my own website to sell through too. I’m under no illusions that this venture will take time to build, I am here for the long haul!

I’m also planning on attending as many craft fairs as possible. During 2022, I will be attending some online yarn and fibre festivals - I’d also love to attend some of the larger fibre and yarn festivals within the U.K. Naturally that does depend on how the current situation pans out. It would be great to be able to meet up with some of you lovely people in person, whether that's virtually or online! Watch my page for updates on what’s happening and when.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

I welcome custom orders, drop me a message and lets see what we can work out! Timescales will vary for very large orders, but I will always be open with you about how long I anticipate an order will take. I require a 50% deposit, up front, on all large custom orders. Up to 300g requires payment in full, up front.

Is all of your fibre and yarn sourced from within the U.K?

Absolutely yes! I'm passionate about our local wool farmers and source everything from within the United Kingdom. If for some reason this is not the case, I state it very clearly on the listing.

What's your policy on reducing plastic waste?

I am passionate about this! Whilst my system isn't perfect, I try very hard to use as little plastic as possible and wherever possible the plastic I do use is recycled/recyclable or reused.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I send all my orders off to you in beautiful, unbleached packaging, tied with biodegradable jute twine. However if you would like a gift note included, please just add that at the checkout or message me. I will handwrite your words on natural paper with my logo printed on it too.

Winding Skeins

I offer a free winding service on the vast majority of my yarns. I also attach labels to each end of the yarn so you can easily decide whether to use it as a centre pull or not. When I send out to you after I have wound it, please be mindful that this will be as a "cake" of yarn, not a spherical ball.

Care instructions

For any wool based yarn I would always encourage hand washing and drying flat. Some of my yarns are "superwashed" and as such they can go in the washing machine on a cool wool wash.

My order is late or missing!

Please message me! I'm always very happy to help with any enquiry regarding your order. I pride myself on my customer care. Informing me of any issue means that I can prioritise finding out what has happened to your parcel, so please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
