About ChiperaCollective

On Etsy since 2010

Hi, I'm Becky.

Hi there, I’m Becky! I’m the one woman show behind Chipera Collective. I re-started my Etsy shop in 2016 but my endless need for creativity started years before! Creativity has always been a part of my life, at least until I started high school. Up to that point I made a LOT of jewelry, molded objects out of Play-Doh, and put beads on everything - you know, all the fun stuff kids do. Once high school hit, I became “too cool” for crafts. Crafting was all but forgotten until about midway through college, when I lost my job and thought, “I should start an Etsy store and sell jewelry.” So I did! I opened my shop in 2012 and sold jewelry for one summer, but eventually ended up back in more formal employment. The new job, along with classes and social activities took over my life and free time.

Fast forward to the holidays, post college. My mom gifted me a “Learn to Crochet” book, so one night I decided to pick up a hook and needle, and the spark was relit! I was crocheting everything for everyone for YEARS. After hearing feedback like, “Your stuff is so cute! You need to sell it!” so many times I reopened this Etsy shop I started in college, except this time it was focused on crochet.

After five name changes, constant crocheting, and beginning to learn metal stamping - Chipera Collective was born!

Why Chipera Collective? Well, it’s because my last name is Chipera and I make product collections. I previously only offered jewelry and before that, I only offered crocheted items. However, as an extremely creative person - I want to do all the things. So, I change my named for a FIFTH and FINAL time. I wanted my business name to make sense for the items I'm selling. Chipera Collective fits perfectly.

I have so many creative passions and they all go hand in hand. I love creating, they relieve my anxiety, and I get to help others.

How do they help others you ask? Well, it took me quite some time to acknowledge my creations were helping others. I was simply creating jewelry that was important to me - stamping phrases that eased my anxiety and made me feel empowered; creating pieces to hold onto those special moments and keep them close. However, I was finding my jewelry didn’t just mean something to me, it meant something to others as well. Customers were sharing their stories about why a particular piece of jewelry was so meaningful to them. My jewelry gave them comfort, love, and important reminders. I fell in love with the process and am so happy I get to create for you!

I am now going back to my roots - I'm continuing with my love for creating positive & empowering jewelry, I'm adding back some crochets pieces and patterns because crocheting is a huge passion of mine, and I'm taking my love of positive & fun phrases and branching into shirts. I'm super excited for this new direction and can't wait to see where it leads.
