About

Chris Crooks

Hello all,
Due to my business going largely wholesale, I have had to close my store for most of he year due to demand. Sorry to all my past customers for the inconvenience. We are now in the calm before the storm, and I have managed to open up shop for a little while. I won't be open for long, a couple of weeks maybe, so if there is something you wish to purchase please don't hesitate. All of the offerings in this shop cannot be found elsewhere, and when I reopen next year many of the designs won't be returning. Happy Holidays -C

Christopher Crooks took a somewhat winding road to get to where is now, running his own successful metal art company. After graduating from the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1984, he worked in advertising, then ran a printing business with his wife, while painting during his free time. Wanting a change of scene, the couple moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1990. There, Chris started a company making solid cast statuary.
It was while collaborating with a metal art manufacturer that Chris met his true love, materially speaking: Metal, he realized, was so much more dynamic than plaster. It was in 2001 that he began designing and making his first line of metal sculpture, inspired from the southwest and the Sonoran desert. He has been happily forging ahead ever since.

From the Artist:

I love working in metal; if you can dream it, you can do it. Cut it, shape it, rust it, grind it, interior, exterior. moving or static. The possibilities are endless. And the finishes! Much like the beauty of a nice piece of wood that's been stained and sealed, so is the magic of metal after it is rusted and sealed. You get a deep, rich, lustrous glow. Take that same piece of metal and grind it, and you get swirls that leap off the surface adding yet another dimension.

Drawing his inspiration from nature and the metal itself, Chris likes to stylize and whittle elements down to their most essential character. Every decision is important, from the simple profile of a rusted quail.
