Announcement   **Different designs available at www.adaptivereuser.com** adaptive reuse creates new lives for lonely and abandoned decorative tins as contemporary art jewelry and accessories. Each piece is hand crafted, one-of-a-kind and filled with upcycled goodness.

It's core to my philosophy to work entirely with non-precious, found, recycled & upcycled materials. You won't find any silver or gold here, but you may find some reclaimed copper now and then. I also like to collect and share good things with you. You can mine my bi-weekly lists at www.adaptivereuser.com

I have been metalsmithing for a dozen years personally designing and handmaking every piece one at a time in my beautiful little San Marcos, Texas studio. Though I work exclusively with found materials, I am often able to make multiples of certain designs. These can make lovely bridesmaid, 3 generation or sister gifts for folks looking for sustainably made products for special occasions. I also am happy to create custom pieces from tins that have special meaning to you. If you'd like to discuss custom work, please send me a message.

About

Video summary: adaptive reuse creates ethical adornment for bohemians, mavericks, individualists & iconoclasts from upcycled tins.

The Lost Art of Using Things Up

I’m especially drawn to materials that are decidedly not precious—things many even consider to be trash. I do this in all aspects of my life, but it's especially obvious in this work of upcycling decorative tin containers into art jewelry.

Finding the tins and selecting the most intriguing areas to work with is, in many ways, a holdover from my graphic design training. Oddly, I find it both comforting and challenging to work with found imagery. Many people who work with tin focus first on the amazing images, but I find that I'm more interested in pushing the material to play with new shapes and forms and letting the imagery become secondary. Which is interesting because I've also spent the last few years exploring how I can transform boring, plain colored tins into surfaces filled with unique patterns, textures and patinas. In some ways the surfaces I create are more intriguing to me now than the ones I find readymade.

The raw tin is an amazingly flexible material allowing for limitless possibilities, but regardless of where I wander with shapes and styles, you will always find me returning to circles. It's a cycle, if you will. This most perfect of shapes is perfect for making everything from shallow basins to cones to everything in between. So, even as I'm always making new and interesting styles and designs, I will also always be creating pieces with circles.

I've worked with tin for so long now it often feels like there's nothing new I could possibly come up with, yet somehow I always do. It's sort of magical in some ways.

Shipping
I generally ship via USPS with a delivery confirmation and insurance if the package is valued over $100. If you prefer a different method, please get in touch with me PRIOR TO PURCHASING so I may properly adjust your shipping information and costs.

As a matter of philosophy, I don't overly package my pieces. Generally, I wrap the piece in glassine and place it in a kraft pillow box with a natural wired ribbon. I recently upgraded to eco friendly bubble mailers that are designed to be reused at least once. If you're purchasing an item as a gift, I am happy to include a note or gift tag with your sentiments. Just leave me a message in the "Notes to Seller" box or contact me once you've made your purchase.
