Thank you for visiting my shop
I discovered my passion for fabrics at the age of five. I remember the exact moment I fell in love with fabric; my grandmother sat down with me on the floor to make my very first rag doll, Panona. We picked and sorted through an old trunk full of scraps of fabric, trims, lace and other goodies by color and texture. I can still remember how anxious I was to start creating a beautiful dress for my doll. From that moment on, I started designing and sewing all the clothes for my doll including dresses, sweaters and even accessories such as belts, hats and handbags.
That same anxious feeling that made my heart beat when I was five came back to me when I was in my mid-thirties. I was in an interior design class and a close friend of mine walked in with a burlap bag, and it immediately caught my eye. It brought me right to the moment my grandmother introduced me to fabrics. At that exact moment I knew I had to go back to my roots, with all of the knowledge and skills I had acquired throughout the years. I went home, opened my own trunk of left over fabrics and began creating what is now my very own line of bags, Cida’s Bags which are inspired by my grandmother’s own creations.
My love for using burlap to create bags runs deep in my routes. I grew up on the farm in Brazil and we had to live off of the resources we grew and locally traded. We used and reused burlap all year long for many different purposes, which started during harvest season. We used burlap bags specifically to hold produce and coffee to sell to local markets and hold food in our home throughout the year.
Due to the great lack of funds and resources nothing was wasted, every little piece of left over materials were saved to combine and used later in order to create and develop whatever we needed. As the season changed, and we consumed our food held in burlap bags, we reused the bags for many other needs. My grandmother used the burlap to make the bags for us to use to go to school, grocery shopping and to travel. She would spend so much time creating and sewing different pieces of fabrics onto the burlap designing these hand crafted bags with recycled materials bag. Every bag was unique and costumed made using fabric to make the straps and front pockets dressing up the burlap in a very fashionable way.
My mission is to carry on my Grandmother’s legacy and to create quality bags with recycled materials that are bright, beautiful and functional to provide others with an everyday product that exenterates their personality and style.
With a background in Interior Designing and sewing, I started designing my own handbags using a combination of the things I love, Interior Design and Fashion by integrating natural materials such as burlap and decorative fabrics.
