Bewitched by Vintage, Sold on Quality

CITIZEN VIXEN is part of the budding CITIZENS-OF-ROSEBUD enterprises, where sustainable shopping supports ethical business practices, and clever re-use is king. Here we focus on quality vintage + pre-loved women’s clothing for summer and fall, offering up quality, on-trend treasures with timeless appeal. We “Rosebuds” believe that you should DRESS TO EXPRESS, and let your true personality shine in well made garments, made to last and made with love.

We personally pick out each item we offer with an eye for USA + Union labels. Our passion is for pure style and for us that means eco-friendly, people friendly and budget friendly. We’ve found that one of the most affordable ways to build a quality wardrobe is to choose SECONDHAND sources, selecting quality items designed for long lasting wear and years of enjoyment for your wardrobe.

The Citizen Rosebud was born over a cup of coffee between two friends, Antonia + Bella. When Bella was asked: what would you want to do for a living to be happy? Bella, who is a poet, writer + artist, as well as a college drop-out, former coffee slinger, deli manager, and pizza cook had a vision of creating a collective where the focus was on creative use of secondhand materials. She’d been selling vintage clothing on the side for years, as a means to fund her own growing vintage clothing habit, and wanted to collaborate with fellow artists in various media using materials from secondhand sources and setting up a shop and a workspace that would be as much about cultivating community as it was about crafting things.

When, in 2008, during the US economy downturn, when work hours were severely cut, she took to selling off her vintage finds to supplement her income. Her job was eventually phased out, and ultimately came to the moment when she rode her bike home sans employment. Arriving home in a bit of a daze, she was jolted back to reality by the knocking of her neighbor who informed her that someone had dumped a bunch of vintage clothing and wares in her apartment’s dumpster, and he figured she might want to check it out, since she “liked these kind of old things.” The container was full of various vintage items, many of them quite sellable, so she took it for a sign to go gung-ho in the re-selling business, and the daunting world of self employment. Perhaps it was just the right sort of kick in the caboose to seize the moment follow the dream to “bloom madly,”

Eight years later, Bella is still at it, now at the ripe age of 50, using her ethics and poetic sensibility, and learning new skills, like photography, product research and business acumen. It’s been a constant learning process, and loads of hard work, but to do honest work, that is both sustainable and ethical, with the added thrill of connecting great garments with fantastic people. You are bound to bloom when feel good about what you do for a living, knowing that in your own private way, you are making the world a better place, one sassy pant-leg at a time.

And still dreaming of that CITIZEN collective she envisioned over that casual cup of coffee, where creative sorts can create with secondhand materials. We dream of more thrills, and less landfills. Every purchase you make, gets the CITIZENS-OF-ROSEBUD one step closer to this goal.

WHAT WE DO: We sell quality vintage + pre-loved goods with an eye for USA + Union labels, as well as collaborate with other artists and artisans utilizing secondhand materials.

WHY WE DO IT: to be the bloom the bloom we want to see in the world.
