Thank you for visiting my shop! All items are handmade by me, Somer Sherwood, Head Dame at Classy Broad. I love color and I'm always trying new things. Check back often!

Whenever possible, I use one-of-a-kind yarn made by fellow Etsy sellers to create my one-of-a-kind hats and art pieces. Other items such as necklaces are usually made from high-quality yarns that I can re-order in a number of colors.

If you have a wool allergy and you see something you love that I've made in wool, I may be able to duplicate it for you in cotton - just ask.

I accept PayPal payments, and payment must be received in full before I ship your order.

All orders must be paid in full within 24 hours, unless you have made prior arrangements with me. Reserve requests are honored on a case-by-case basis -- please convo me for more information.


All ready to ship items will be shipped within 1 - 3 days of purchase via United States Postal Service, unless requested otherwise. Made to order items may take up to 3 weeks to ship, and I will always give you an estimated ship date within 48 hours of your purchase.

The price of postage often includes delivery confirmation and insurance. All orders are shipped via Parcel Post, First Class, or Priority Mail. Any additional mailing services (such as signature confirmation) are the responsibility of the buyer -- if you wish to add these services, or confirm the purchase of insurance, please contact me immediately so that I may adjust your postage price, if necessary. Classy Broad is not responsible for items lost or damaged during shipping.

I ship international orders twice per week. Ready to ship items will generally ship within a week of purchase. Made to order items may take up to 3 weeks to ship, and I will always give you an estimated ship date within 48 hours of your purchase. Please allow up to six weeks for your order to arrive.

Because it is so difficult to accurately estimate the cost of international postage, any difference between the amount you paid for postage and the actual postage cost will be refunded to your PayPal account after your order has shipped. Or, if you wish, I can obtain a shipping quote for you prior to you completing your purchase, but this may delay shipping by 3 days or more.

International orders are shipped without delivery confirmation or insurance, and the buyer is responsible for paying any taxes or fees levied. If you wish to purchase additional services, such as insurance, please contact me immediately so that I may obtain a price quote for you.

Classy Broad is not responsible for shipments lost or damaged in transit.

Refunds and Exchanges

At this time, I cannot give refunds, so please ask questions before completing your purchase. All items in my shop are one size fits most, but please ask questions if you are unsure whether something will fit you.

(Effective for purchases made after 5/1/2012):
I will be happy to exchange an item for store credit, as long as the following conditions are met:

• The buyer must notify me of the wish to exchange within 3 days of receipt of the item.
• The item must me returned in the same condition in which it left my hands.
• The item must be unworn, unused and free of any signs of damage or wear.
• The buyer pays for the return shipping costs, and any subsequent shipping costs for the substitute item.
• I must receive the item prior to issuing a store credit.

I will gladly make repairs to any Classy Broad purchase within six months of purchase. Buyer pays shipping both ways. Please convo me if you wish to inquire about repair service.

Additional Policies and FAQs


1. What the heck is freeform crochet?

Freeform crochet is, in its most basic form, crocheting without a pattern. Most of my hats are crocheted in this manner and can range from very simple constructions to wildly imaginative pieces of fiber art. I employ many freeform techniques, including scrumbling, which is crocheting small pieces and then joining them at the end to complete the whole.

2. Can you make me a freeform crochet hat just like one of the other freeform crochet hats in your shop?

Unfortunately, no. Because I do not work from a pattern, and my hat-making is a very organic process, each piece is totally unique and forms as I am making it. I do not set out to create a certain kind of hat - I let the hat take me wherever it seems to want to go. I may be able to create a hat for you using similar colors, but I can never make the same hat again.

3. How do you price your hats? Why are some hats so expensive?

I try to keep my prices as reasonable as possible. I price my hats based on two elements - cost/quality of materials, and the time it takes me to make a hat. Many of my hats use top-quality, hand-spun/hand-dyed yarns and take me 15 - 20 hours to complete and include very intricate details and textures. Other hats may be made of a blend of natural and synthetic fiber and be of a relatively simple construction that only requires 5 hours of my time to make. Still others may be made of totally synthetic fibers and take only and hour or two to complete.

4. Is everything you make "freeform crochet"?

Most of my hats are made employing this technique, but many of my other accessories (necklaces, beanies, scarves, cowls, fingerless gloves, earrings, keychains) are designed and crocheted by me. I have made patterns for some of these items, so they can be duplicated many times over, in virtually any color or fiber. Just ask!
