About

The story of a collector...

It all began with an inherited 19th century encyclopedia.
Or did it?
Looking back, I started collecting 'old things' in my pre-teens. Nothing valuable, for the most part, just things that caught my eye. And if you know collectors - well, they keep collecting...
Along came the 'marvelous Meyer' (Wikipedia), or formally Meyer's Konversationslexikon, a renowned German encyclopedia that was published from 1839 till 1984 (yes, that is 145 years). Because I couldn't ship the whole 17 - book edition from Germany to the US, I only took the illustrations. Because even I didn't have use for hundreds of antique book plates, I decided to sell some.
EleanorsVintage was born...

I love finding these gorgeous illustrations loving new homes, and because I am a native German, I can provide more detail about these book plates than most sellers on etsy.

But also, once I had an etsy shop selling vintage goods, I realized I had other treasures I wanted to share...vintage fashions I had outgrown, vintage books that didn't fit on the shelves anymore, vintage china I had accumulated and was never using.
And when I started selling these other things, I realized I enjoyed researching the history of them, and taking pictures that showed them in the best light.
So these days on my way home from work, I might just make a little detour to one of my favorite 'hunting grounds' to see what beauties I can unearth.
I hadn't planned it that way, I didn't see it coming, but looking back again, it makes perfect sense that I should be selling things with a patina.
And I can see myself doing this for a long, long time...

Thank you for taking a look at EleanorsVintage - I hope you like what you see, and you'll find what you are looking for!
