PLEASE NOTE: Shipping times may be altered due to Covid 19. Thank you for your patience.
Thank you for visiting Clay by Stacia! I make high quality stoneware pottery from my home in Kyle, Texas. Each item is handmade on my pottery wheel or from a slab of clay. After decorating, I fire, glaze and re-fire each piece. My ring holders have glass melted in the bottom, which crackles as it cools, creating a beautiful effect. In addition to selling on Etsy, I vend at various festivals and fairs throughout central Texas. You can also find my work at Artisans: A Texas Gallery located at 234 West Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624.
If you live near the Kyle, TX area, feel free to stop by to pick up your purchases, and I can refund your shipping charges.

Unique and Durable
I started my ceramics shop with one main goal in mind: to create unique pottery that people can use every day.
All of my pottery is thrown on my pottery wheel or built with slabs of clay, making each piece one-of-a-kind. I also use glazes that I mix myself to add that special, personal touch.
To ensure that all of my pottery is durable enough to stand the test of time, I fire to 2185 degrees F. Pottery fired to high temperatures is natuarally stronger than low fire pottery.
I also test all of my glazes to make sure they will withstand everyday use. I have soaked a sample of each glaze in vinegar to make sure it will withstand the acids naturally found in foods. I also boil each glaze sample in dishwashing detergent, to ensure that each of my pieces will have a long dishwasher life. My promise to you is that I will only use materials that pass my rigorous durability tests.
This is my basic creation process:
- I weigh a lump of clay to ensure it is the correct amount, and wedge, or knead it, to remove any air bubbles and even out the moisture content.
- I make the piece either by throwing on my wheel, or rolling out a slab of clay and forming it into the shape I want.
- I let the piece dry for a day or so, then trim away excess clay from the bottom, add handles, and make other adjustments. Then I cover it in plastic to keep it from drying too quickly.
- The piece dries slowly over the course of one to two weeks. If it dries too quickly, it could crack.
- I load my kiln and fire all my dry pieces the first time. This is called a bisque firing.
- The pieces are removed, and I glaze them either by dipping or painting.
- After the glaze dries, I fire them again.
- When the kiln has cooled, I remove each piece and inspect it, then smooth any rough spots with a special stone.
- Now the pottery is ready for you to use and enjoy!
