About

Clay changed my life, in ways I never expected. I create functional works of art that will enhance people's lives, simple by using my pottery.

.. I took every math class they offered in college. I loved solving logic problems and numbers and data. I used to program computers for a living. I was a systems analyst in corporate America.
.. Then In 1998, I began working in clay in a very abstract way, more as an expression on my inner most feelings. I did figurative and hand built work in ceramics. I found that it was functional work that really got me excited.
.. After many ceramics classes, my wheel work began to expand along with the fascination of the different types of glazings and firings that are available. I do reduction come 10, oxidation cone 6 , as well as dabbling with raku.
...I enjoy the collaboration of with customers working with custom orders.

I make work in one of three places. Either at the local college where I teach, the guild where I teach, or in my basement studio. I do my oxidation firing at my house and my reduction firing at the college.

Care instructions

RAKU pieces are not FOOD SAFE or WATER TIGHT

Never leave lit candles unattended. Lanterns, votive holders, candle holders, luminaries will become hot after they have been lit for a while, even if they are electric.

Never take ceramics directly from the freezer or refrigerator to the oven. Always let the piece warm up in the oven during the preheating of the oven. Never put ceramics on an open flame.

Stoneware can be used in the microwave oven, but will absorb some heat. Use car when taking pieces out of the microwave.

Stoneware pieces are dishwasher safe. Handle them with care when washing to avoid chipping. Once a piece is chipped it is likely that a crack will develop as well, and should no longer be used to heat and serve food.
