Hi, I'm Britney! Maker behind Clayflower Studios, creating ceramic wares for plant friends and forever playing the role of "plant mom". Born and raised in Southern Illinois in a family of farmers and gardeners, I've had a deep love of the plant world since I was little. I also grew up always loving art. If I wasn't outside playing in the dirt, I was inside coloring, drawing, painting, or I was out in my dad's woodshop helping with his projects. In 2009 I moved to Cincinnati, OH to attend art school (where I met my now husband and frequent studio helper, Evan). I spent most of my time there in the woodshop, creating modular, geometric planter boxes for small scale food growing. After school I spent a couple years working for garden centers and greenhouses and in 2015 I took my first trip to @queencityclay . I quickly went from being a frequent customer to work trade studio member. With my background in woodworking, I took to handbuilding rather than throwing. In 2016 I began making hanging planters and air plant hangers, thus, Clayflower Studios was formed! We spent 2 years building the business in Cincinnati while making yearly trips to Maine (prompted by the suggestion of a former boss of mine). We fell in love with Maine immediately, got married in Acadia National Park in 2018 and finally made the move in May of 2019. As expected, we've been welcomed into the community with open arms and even after only 9 months here, it already feels like home. Maine is a constant source of inspiration and having this sort of "fresh start" is what has led to some of the new directions we're taking this year. We're thrilled to be able to join this vibrant community of crafters and farmers and can't wait to see what our future holds.
