Welcome! Most of my work is created on the potters wheel. Horsehair Raku is my favorite - Never heard of it? Let me tell you about it. I remove the piece from the kiln while red hot and apply horsehair or other hair. The hair dances on the pot leaving black squiggles that are the carbon markings smoked into the clay body.
You can also find pit fired work, functional stoneware and handmade tiles. I Love working with clay & I hope it shows in my work!
Looking for something special?? Enjoy looking! I may have it. Please follow me on Facebook at Carol Ratliff, or Clay Potential Pottery. Send me a note - Id love to say hello. If you are driving through Oregon on the I-5, please stop in Riddle (exit 103) and check out my Brick and Mortar Shop on Main Street. Dont blink, or you will miss it. If I am closed, give me a call - I may be working in the back. 541-874-3931

5 out of 5 starsCarol made duplicates of my vases in case one shattered during the process of creating them. I originally ordered 2 and ended up buying them all. They are delightful. This is such a beautiful way to honor your dog/horse. Very happy

5 out of 5 starsThis piece is incredible and everything I wanted and more. The pictures do not do it justice. The markings and colors are vivid and subtle in just the right ways. It portrays an indescribable mood which perfectly matches the purpose of the urn, incredibly beautiful yet somber. It is an amazing piece to hold a loved one. Carol was more than accommodating to get me this piece on time and answered my questions timely. Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 starsCarol is a true artist, not only is she talented but takes the time to communicate and goes above and beyond to making a custom piece that truly evokes what I was looking for. We worked together on creating an urn for my beloved dog of 17 years. I told her a little bit about pup and she really wanted to convey that in her pottery. Knowing that she used my pet’s hair to create carbon markings makes this urn even more special. Carol aims to please. She even sent me a video of the process. I am more than happy on how my pet’s Urn came out and will cherish this forever. Really touched my heart .Thank you

ClayPotentialPottery is a collection of Fine Pottery, Ceramic Art, Acrylic Paintings and Sculptures by Carol Ratliff
In 2007, My brick n mortar shop, Clay Potential Pottery, opened right on Main Street in the very rural town of Riddle, Oregon. It has a small gallery area, with a work space and wheels in the front of the shop. Kilns, office and supplies in the back of the shop.
I have began teaching classes for the local high school. The students walk to my shop two days a week and get a chance to learn various methods to work in clay.
Because Riddle is so rural, I needed more sales to continue my shop, so I heard about Etsy as a place to sell handmade items. I am more of an artist than a techy working on the computer, so my shop didn't blossom much. It just sort of sat there and I didn't use it for years. When covid hit the world I had to learn to teach on line, so now I am turning back to my Etsy shop to show my work.
My work is handmade and variations will occur.
