Lisa Boucher's Adventures in Clay
My first experience with clay was in pottery class in high school. I remember wanting to just hang out in the art room and play with clay all day. Several years later while living in Florida, a friend gave me a pair of porcelain earrings and suggested that would be a great idea for a small business for me. After some experimenting, I was making and selling my ceramic earrings, necklaces and various wearable art. I took part in some of the local craft festivals, and hit the road selling my wares from St. Augustine to Key West.
Since moving back to my native New Hampshire, I've been making functional pottery in addition to my clay jewelry. The seashore, flowers and autumn leaves, are among some of my favorite themes. During the holidays I get inspired to create ornaments to give as gifts and sell in my Etsy shop.
For years my medium was earthenware clay and I painted very detailed designs with underglazes. I was introduced to stoneware clay by my pottery teacher Sally Cornwell. I then began using stoneware as well as porcelain for my jewelry and ornaments. I love with the effects of the high fire glazes.
I enjoy making ceramic jewelry components which I encorporate in my macramé and wire work. I've also made them available in my shop for other designers to use in their pieces.
My finished jewelry, pendants, beads and components have been published in Jewelry Stringing, Step by Step Wire and Beadtrends. A highlight for me was having my Autumn's Allure bracelet on the cover of the September 2012 Beadtrends magazine!
I'm a member of New Hampshire Made and the Etsy Mud team. I hope you'll enjoy browsing my shop, and please don't hesitate to convo me if you have any questions!
