About the Jewelry:
I often purchase the stones direct from the Lapidary who mine and cut them. I personally select each based on color and uniqueness for my pieces. Each piece is one of a kind and hand forged (not cast) from .925 sterling silver and other complimentary metals. Due to the nature of hand fabrication, each piece will be completely unique and irreplaceable.

SHIPPING: My pieces always arrive gift-wrapped for you or the receiver. Shipping includes USPS First Class Mail (domestic 2-3 day delivery) plus cost of insurance. There is always a risk of packages not being delivered by USPS nonetheless, so . . . If you prefer to use UPS or FedEx; please let me know and I'll provide any cost increase to you.
International shipping is at a big discount. Let me know especially if you pay a tariff etc.

Metals:
*ARGENTIUM silver is a new premium sterling that resists tarnishing and made from RECYCLED SILVER component. Argentium Int'l proclaims that it is the "finest silver" due to its unique alloy mix that replaces some copper with an element called Germanium. The lower copper content resists tarnishing and has a lighter/brighter silver colour.

A very beautiful pendant. I love the tropical twist on your classic poppy design and the Turquoise has such a great color. Thank you so much!

About

About CLGdesigns and Inspiration

CLGdesigns Jewelry is one-of-a-kind jewelry hand fabricated by me in my home workshop in Reno, NV. My designs are primarily inspired by nature, flowers and the like.
MATERIALS include .925 sterling silver, 14k & 18k gold, and/or copper sheet procured from supply companies in the U.S. (e.g. RioGrande). I also use a premium silver named Argentium® made with recycled material and a low copper alloy. Pieces made with Argentium® are stamped with the "winged unicorn" trademark that only Argentium Guild members can use. (visit http://Argentiumsilver.com for more information). My creations include colorful gemstones of Labradorite, Montana agate, Fire Agate, Turquoise, Smithsonite, pearls, Florida fossils and more. I purchase stone cabochons from lapidary artists in CA, NV, Utah, AZ, and TX including Jim Elquist (Battle Mountain "Blue Gem" Turquoise). Most lapidaries are independent miners and diggers themselves. I select each stone based on uniqueness for one-of-a-kind pieces. My designs are often driven by the stone itself, usually a flower (Lilly, Lotus, Poppy etc.) or other organic shape. I may also use a simple setting to highlight the beauty of the stone in an elegant way.
TOOLS: Key tools include various forging and dapping hammers, found objects, picks, and sand papers used to create unique textures and finishes. I also use varied soldering torches, a kiln, flex shaft / drills and jeweler's saw. Each one-of-a-kind piece is hand forged and fabricated; never casted.
CREATIVE TECHNIQUE: I start each piece by drawing a sketch around the stone that I wish to set; brainstorming with textures and shapes until the design is final. The sketch is then used as a template to cut the piece out of sterling sheets with my jeweler’s saw. In some instances, I will use two or more layers of silver to create depth and dimension. Layers may be attached by soldering, rivets or wire. Soldering multiple layers of sterling is challenging because the silver can overheat or melt. Heating silver multiple times will make it brittle, causing the silver to crack when forged. As an alternative, rivets can be used like little nails to “cold connect” the layers together or attach gemstones for bits color. Another method of cold connecting is by drilling holes through each piece and literally stitching them together with gold, copper or fine silver wire. Wire curls and admonishments also add a twist to the design. Creative bezel settings are another way to add interest. Instead of using a flat bezel wire, I pinch the bezel at specific points around the stone to create a wavy floral or funky geometric setting. My pieces are also often identified by a window that is cut out of the metal under the stone. If the stone is beautiful on the bottom, why hide it? The window allows light to illuminate through the gem and makes the pendant look pretty underneath.
FINISHING: Once the pieces are cut, a texture is applied with my dapping tools. The bezel is attached and pieces assembled by solder or cold connection. Then, with a flower pendant for instance, I will soften the metal by annealing it with my torch, then bend the petals to give a sense of flutter and movement. The piece is then sanded with 3 different grits of paper followed by tumbling, giving it a brilliant professional shine. A patina may then be added to bring out the texture and wah-lah . . . it comes to life!

Welcome to CLGdesigns on Etsy and thank you for visiting! My goal is to inspire others and exhibit my pieces as my style and skill set evolves.

LOW PRICES: These are essentially priced at wholesale. I try to be honest in my pricing and keep costs affordable by doing my own photography and keeping overhead low. I pass any savings on to you when I get a great deal on materials, stones or silver. This is a creative outlet for me that I like to share with others; not necessarily to try to make a fortune. Your support allows me to continue growing in my craft and is all the reward I need (-:

I endeavor to seek out unique gem stones, semi-precious stones and/or other findings to create beautiful items that I would be proud to wear myself or give to family. I try to use the best quality materials to keep a higher standard of quality and always welcome your positive or constructive feedback.
