Announcement   NOW FREE SHIPPING in the United States. Small additional cost outside the US.

I am a geologist and paleontologist by profession. I travel the country collecting rocks and minerals. One day I had the idea to use some of the things I have collected to make jewelry and home decor. I especially like to mimic nature in my art. Arches National Park, shown in my logo, is one of my favorite places to visit. It provides great inspiration for my art. I now create indivudally made jewelry and home decor, each with its own special touch of nature.

I use my business to support my two senior dogs, Reddie and Angus. Reddie was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy shortly after I got him. This is a depilitating disease similar to ALS in humans. About six months after I got him, he also had a stroke. Now he has to start treatment for kidney disease. Yet he is happy and playful. Angus gets recurring infections on his feet and has tumors and cysts. Clidastes Stones sells rock, mineral and fossil display specimens, stone craft jewelry and home art and jewelry supplies including cabochons to help pay their veterinary bills and raise awareness for degenerative myelopathy. Research on a cure for degenerative myelopathy is hopeful, and if successful, could pave the way for a cure for ALS.

Return policy: I will gladly take returns or exchanges on stock items, minus shipping costs, for any reason. Customer is responsible for return shipping costs. Items must be returned in original condition. Any loss of value will be deducted from the return. I am a small business and custom orders take time and special materials. Due to the nature of custom items, these will not be accepted for return.

I added some new, unique designer cabochons to my collection. This is a rare, new gemstone impactite from Gardnos, Norway. An impactite is a stone created during the impact of a meteorite. This impactite has micro-diamonds in it.
My baby Reddie took a turn for the worse this weekend with his degenerative myelopathy and has become more clumsy, falling down stairs. Reddie is my reason for selling, to support his vet costs in this terrible disease.
My selection of jewelry and home decor is on sale 15% off until May 5 with coupon code #rescuedog, just in time for #mothersday, #prom, #graduation or that special #teacher_gift. Prices start at just $5.

About

My obsession with stones - and helping a dog in need

As a geologist, I of course love stones. I often look for stones with unique shape to them and have long wondered what to do with them. When I first began my business, I had recently (re)discovered suiseki and made some for friends and family. I enjoyed making them and just kept making them. I was also given a gift of a wire wrapped stone from one of our field trips by one of my students. At Christmas, we were trying to find gifts for people we didn't know very well and I realized - wire wrapped pendants are a lovely gift. I made the ones for the gifts, and then became obsessed with those as well. I love the opportunity to make and share my stones with others.

More recently, I have become very interested in stone crafting jewelry supplies out of material I have collected or acquired, including cabochons. I have also begun sharing my mineral collections.

I decided to start selling my artwork as a way to raise awareness and money to help pay for my dog's treatments for degenerative myelopathy, a progressive debilitating condition that is very much like ALS in humans. I rescued Reddie almost two years ago as an older "unadoptable" dog. About a month later I learned he had degenerative myelopathy. For now I am working to support my dog, but the time will come when he will succumb to this terrible disease (average life span after diagnosis is 1-3 years). However, a portion of my proceeds also goes to the local SPCA to help other dogs find a home. When the time comes that Reddie is no longer with me I plan to team up with a foundation who is doing research to cure this disease through gene therapy. Did you know that this same research can some day also help people with ALS (Lou Gerig's disease)? I hope to be a part of helping to make that happen.

This is a part time hobby that I recently started. I work full time as a professor of geology. Most of the stones I use in my work I have collected during field trips with my classes from around the country.
