Announcement   I make clocks from vinyl records as fun, unique gifts. Custom orders welcome. Its getting a bit close to christmas for custom orders now, but you might as well ask, as I often have the records in stock! I am trying to pack and ship standard orders in 48 hours, but have increased estimated shipping because, well, its the christmas rush and I am only human! Still time to order for Australia, til about 7th December, still ok for USA/ Canada orders, til about 8th or 9th. Please don't ask for special/fast treatment. If you need it quickly, or may be out when its delivered, please added tracked shipping option, so that you can track your parcel. I am a one-person business, but I will do my best to get all orders shipped as fast as possible.
All musical tastes from Abba to Zappa and everything in between.

About

Art, Music, Love, Life, Its all an adventure...

My partner Ben Allen and I were both artists. full time, professional, ben selling through galleries, me teaching junk sculpture in schools and doing exhibitions. Ben also had a passion for music, and was an avid vinyl collector and part-time record dealer.
Now the recession has hit artists hard. We went from selling in 8 galleries to 2 in one year, and then the sales in the remaining 2 dropped by 80%. Most of my school work dried up due to funding cuts. We had always enjoyed selling our arts, crafts and vintage goods, and as avid collectors we were never short of stock!!
So we took a market stall. Then we began working on new product ideas. I had been rescuing bens "rejects" from the rubbish, lovely records that were perhaps missing a sleeve, so couldn't be sold as vinyl, and so making clocks seemed a sensible thing to do. And Ben had 10 years experience selling online and I had always dabbled, so shops on etsy and ebay seemed a natural move. The market stall was a great way to try out ideas, to put things in front of people and get instant feedback. But the online sales soon took over, so after a year and a house move that gave us the office space and storage we needed (with over 15,000 records and 100s of pictures, paintings and the contents of 2 art studios to fit in!) we finally quit the market to concentrate on the online sales. And now we sell all over the world!

It has taken 2 years to build the online shops up and since then we have opened a real bricks and mortar record shop called Abbazappa in Londonderry. Ben works in the shop all week and comes home at weekends. I stay here in the hills above Belfast, surrounded by fields of cows, donkeys, cats, birds and wildlife and make, create, and sell on etsy and other sites.
My etsy shop has become an all consuming passion. What started out as a way to save a few vinyl from landfill has become a full time business. I now spend hours each week sourcing excellent records to make clocks, and I visit record fairs and buy huge record collections alongside Ben, as well as raiding the record shop! Our jobs complement each other nicely and I hope our artistic leanings show in our display, presentation and packaging.
Also, I get to play records all day long as I work, which is fun!
We are now working on new product lines for the shop, for etsy and for my other etsy shop:
www.etsy.com/artistkatieblue where the more colourful and humourous side of my creativity comes out.
I really enjoy my job and love working with customers to make their favourite songs into clocks, to create gifts that have real meaning and value to people. I hope the business will continue to grow and flourish.
Meanwhile, time to make a cup of tea and put on another record while I decide which clock to make next.....
