Welcome to Clutch Instructions, your source for original, vintage knitting and crochet patterns. These patterns were almost exclusively originally sold here in New Zealand, but many of them were originally published in Britain or Australia.

This shop grew out of my love of hand knitting and crocheting and my near obsession with ephemera from prior eras. When my personal collection of vintage patterns could no longer fit in my spare room, I decided it was time to share them with the world.

Accepted payment methods

Returns and exchanges
All items are original paper products and are at least 20 years old, hence most show at least a little bit of their age. Any wear or tear on the pattern is clearly described in the description. If you feel like I misrepresented the condition of a pattern, please contact me directly to discuss the issue.

Otherwise, there are no refunds or exchanges. Though I wish I could test them all, I have not had a chance to knit or crochet most of these patterns, so I make no claim to their accuracy.
I accept Paypal. All prices are in US dollars.

For New Zealand residents I accept direct bank transfers as well.
Pay shipping for only the first item. All additional items ship for no additional cost!

I ship from New Zealand using New Zealand Post airmail.

The estimated arrival time in the destination country is 3-10 business days. Once your order arrives in the destination country it is in hands of the local postal service, and extra time may be required for it to be delivered to your door.

If you require special handling or shipping, feel free to contact me for a quote.

What am I buying?
You get with your purchase the actual knitting or crochet vintage pattern leaflet or book. It is not a digital copy. It is not a PDF. It is not a paper copy. It is the original piece of paper that was printed back in the days of yore.

Why don't you just scan them and sell me a PDF you can email?
My love for vintage items comes from the connection I feel to our ancestors when I hold them in my hands. The history is embedded in the fibers. I want to share that feeling with you. Plus, I don't have to worry about those pesky copyright issues if I sell you the actual pattern rather than a copy. ;)

How old is the pattern?
Unfortunately, most of these pattern leaflets have no dates on them. I don't know why the publishing companies omitted this information, but my guess is it was probably done on purpose so the patterns would not appear outdated a few years after publication. You know how fickle the fashion world is. No one wants to be wearing last year's frock. So despite my best efforts at determining the ages, unless stated otherwise, the dates I list are only educated estimates.

Are the patterns correct?
Honestly, for the vast majority of my patterns, I have no idea. Chances are there will be some mistakes. But that's all part of the fun of rediscovering these designs. :)
