About cmeek68
Handmade sterling silver/18k jewelry with a focus on symbolism, animals, flowers and images of meaning and importance.
My exploration of jewelry started as a line of childrens artwork executed as sterling silver jewelry. After studying the art of jewelry making from piercing to wax carving, to soldering, polishing, casting, a spontaneous interest turned me to the beauty of word written in an ancient Chinese writing called grass script. With its lyrical, fluid form, it expressed word with visual beauty and grace. This opened up to exploring sacred symbolism and it's near endless creative possibilities. Through a good friend of mine that was a strong cat lover, I started to play with animal forms, to try and capture the simplistic but expressive nature of these animals and further down the road was drawn to flowers and how to create fowers that had character and life. All of which I am drawn to in jewelry has meaning in some form. Whether it's a word translated, a love for an animal or specific flower, all these possibilities continue to be explored, and have led me further down my own personal path of discovery and meaning.

Welcome! I am Korean born, adopted at a very early age by a family in Ireland. My dad was a singer, musician and radio personality. My mother, an American woman whose heart and love was for Ireland, the people, the music and the culture as a whole. My mother spent most of her adult life as a collector and archivist of folk music in Ireland, Scotland and America. This rich in art, creative, musical home life exposed me to some of the finest musicians of Ireland on a constant basis, and became a deep emotional foundation. That creative environment was the basis, years later, of finding my own personal creative outlet in metals. This mix of early Irish life, my Asian cultural heritage, a meticulousness and a need for fine detail all combine together in form that she I hope will connect the wearer to these rich, diverse elements. I currently reside in Ojai, California.
