A Boy and His Imagination

Like many artsy folks, I've been creating and designing pieces for a long time, but I've only recently gathered the courage to make any of them available for sale. Most of my work is created digitally, beginning with a blank space, a graphics tablet, and an idea.

My process usually involves sketches and notes made in a small book that I keep with me at all times. Even if you meet me on the street, or on the way to the post office, I'll have my notebook in a pocket, ready to receive whatever scribbles my brain desires. I'm a firm believer in the idea that the brain is designed to create, design, and problem-solve, but it's really not meant to actively store a lot of information.

I then scan an image from my notebook into my computer, and use it as a reference point, building up layers of colors and shapes to get the final design. This process and the programs I use change depending on the look I'm going for, but for most of the time, I've found Adobe Photoshop to be a very capable program once you know how to create and configure brushes and patterns in it. On rare occasions I will use some filters or a plug-in, but tend to stay away from them if I can truly help it.

I also like to take photographs, and have begun including those for sale as well. You'll notice a growing number are beach and coast-related, and that's because I moved to the Wilmington/Pleasure Island, North Carolina area in May of 2014, and am really smitten with the creative energy and vibrant arts community here.

Frequently asked questions
Color of artwork vs your monitor

The color in your items may differ slightly from photos due to different monitor settings. I've worked with digital printing since 2004, and what you receive from my studio workshop and production partners is always the intended color result. I have very high standards, and nothing leaves this workshop if it doesn't meet them.
