About us

Cocoa Brothers is a small business created with the idea of bringing back some of the best old-style chocolate in the world as well as developing modern recipes that combine customers demand and current healthy lifestyle.

The Cocoa Brothers project started in 2014 and it was officially in business in 2016.

When it comes to our chocolate, we wanted to reinvent today's average chocolate bar by taking inspiration from the original Modica Chocolate – made the same way since it first appeared in Modica, Italy, hundreds of years ago – but in a more sustainable and healthy way.

In an era of industrialization, high-tech machinery, mass production and modified ingredients, we strive to deliver what we like to call the "chocolate from the past", a chocolate made without the use of modern techniques or tools, just like they used to hundreds of years ago.
We do that by making our chocolate by hand, in small quantities, tempering on a marble slab over and over again using the best natural ingredients. Our chocolate is made only with two ingredients: Organic Cocoa and Sugar.

But there is more.

Besides re-creating the same old-style chocolate bar, we wanted to be fully immersed in the Past just like if we traveled back in time using a time machine (maybe a DeLorean?).
With that in mind and with our graphics and printing background, we thought of complementing our chocolate line by designing and printing our own packaging. We use a 100-years-old letterpress powered by a foot treadle, just like grandma's old sewing machine. Our boxes, business cards and everything that is paper-made is completely handcrafted. We print mostly on recycled paper, then we use a custom made die to cut the box's silhouette into the paper and we wrap every piece of chocolate by hand. Multiply that by thousands!

We are proud of being able of making everything ourselves. Our business is our baby. We save money by making everything "in the house" rather than outsourcing and we deliver a product that is 100% handmade, top to bottom, in Orlando, FL.

Modica, 1887. Simone sailed across the ocean dreaming of a new life in the capital of the world, New York. "Welcome to the Sunshine State", catchy slogan for the land of freedom. He later realized he took the wrong ship, ending up in Florida instead.

    Business Director For Europe

Fausto was originally casted for the role of Fabrizio, DiCaprio's best friend in the movie Titanic. He lost the part when he never showed up his first day of work due to Wawa's doughnut giveaway that was "too good to pass up"

Frequently asked questions
What does Dark Chocolate mean?

Chocolate is considered dark when it has little or no milk. The current Modica Chocolate has no milk whatsoever. If future versions will contain any milk it will be highlited in the back of the box.

Dark chocolate is too bitter for me

Most dark chocolate is very bitter! However Modica Chocolate is not. The Cocoa-Sugar ratio is different than most brands, just because it says dark (not using milk) it doesn’t have to be bitter!

Cocoa butter? Wait, you said it was dairy free!

Cocoa butter and Cocoa powder are the main ingredients for chocolate. They come together in what we call Cocoa Mass (or Liquor) and mixed with sugar makes chocolate. Cocoa butter does not have anything to do with Dairy butter (that contains lactose) so it’s perfectly safe for Vegans and people who are allergic or intolerant to Lactose or any sort of dairy related product.

Can I personalize the boxes for my special event?

Yes! As you know, all the packaging is made in the house therefore if you are celebrating your wedding or graduation or any event, we can personalize the boxes any way you want! We can also print your logo for hotels, businesses, charities and more.
Minimum quantity required. 1 color only. Fees apply. Contact us at for more info.

Will it melt on the way here?

Most likely not. We wrap the chocolate in Mylar bubble wrap or any Mylar material, which reduces the change of temperature. It also says “Keep away from heat” on the outer box. We have shipped several packages all over the U.S.A and we never had a problem.

What's Modica Chocolate cocoa-sugar ratio?

Modica Chocolate uses 50% Cocoa and 50% Sugar for most bars. Some of them, however, use a different ratio. The 75% Cocoa bar, for example, uses 75% Cocoa and 25% Sugar. When the ratio is different than 50-50 it will be specified in the back of the box.

Is Modica Chocolate imported from Sicily?

No, the chocolate is made in Orlando, FL, following the ancient 400-years-old Aztec-inspired Sicilian recipe from Modica

Do I need to keep it in the fridge?

No. Modica Chocolate does not require refrigeration. Keep it in a cool and dry place, away from the sun. Some people like to store it in the fridge and that’s not a problem, just make sure you put the chocolate inside a ziplock bag to prevent humidity from ruining it.

Can I make hot cocoa with it?

Absolutely! Modica Chocolate was originally meant just for that! Every bar is divided in four sections and every one of them makes a cup of cocoa! Break two or more pieces if you want your hot cocoa to be stronger!

Does Modica Chocolate contain caffeine?

Yes, like all chocolates, Modica Chocolate contains a small percentage of caffeine. #themoreyouknow
