Received the journal three weeks ago and the result was amazing. I cannot really describe by words how beautiful the journal really is. Raquel delivered outstanding piece of work, communication was flawless and journal was delivered in 4 days. I am looking forward to take it on my next trip to write down memories. Thank you Raquel :)

One of my favorite process is sewing... But only with books. A moment with the emotion to create something new. A very agreeable sensation. :)
The first "Selkie book" in turquoise and copper tones, born listening the music of Ana Alcaide, "The Selkie wife".
Not only the history is fascinating, but also the inspiration by witches, goddess and all femenine spirits behind her songs.
"I just wanted to let you know the book was absolutely wonderful and will be a gift remembered for a long time. Thank you so much for your work and I hope I can find an excuse to order another book in the future!"
Thank you! blue_heart

About

Sometimes it is necessary to reinvent oneself and open new ways. One is "El códice del Eremita", undoubtedly.

My blog “El códice del Eremita" (The Hermit's codex) was born to let the public know about the work a restorer of graphic documents develops, an almost unknown and even undervalued activity (few people know it is basically a science-based profession), using a language as simple as possible.

Along with this objective, I was determined to achieve another: to meet my creative self again, which I had neglected for a long time. I've always loved drawing, writing... having my hands and mind busy following the beat of my imagination. I missed it so much.

I found the final push in binding, respecting and breaking its rules in a conscious way, taking advantage of errors to create unique pieces, researching and coming back to what I didn't learn in the past...

That's how, gladly shut in my small studio, I became a "hermit", and adopted that name permanently. A hermit similar to many of you, artists who manage to spare some time to find yourselves. And then, a large vital "Codex", to restore and to fill.

I find inspiration primarily on traditional binding, but I also try to formally reinvent the technique and make the product affordable without reducing its quality. I also look for the final result to be simple, harmonious, so that each part "talks" without outshining the others, from the humble seam to the embossed decoration. I like to think that each one of the models have some balance.

I do not repeat an item immediately once it's sold, I try to leave the next one "born" from the previous one: the materials and techniques make each piece unique, and thus I feel (a little secret: before sending them to a customer I "talk" to my creations, wishing them the best in their "new life" ... are these crazy hermit's things?)

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalised orders

I could need between 1-4 weeks for custom orders to be completed (please check item's description). Must be paid at time to the order.

* Personalized journals: I always send some pictures before ship to your email. I usually send to customers two reminder messages more, but if finally I have no response I'll send the item to the Etsy address provided.

I take and process the photos as similar as possible to the reality. However, it is obvious that slight differences will still exist, about the colors especially.

Please, note the leather is organic, and there are some differences between the pieces.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Ready-to-ship Orders will be packaged and shipped on 24-48 hours once payment is received. I will send you a notification that your order was processed, with the track number, so you’ll be able to follow the delivery status.

Please NOTE: you must have more time to manufacture the products in those items that are Made to Order (for example, Summum Meditatio Personalized Journals). This time should be about 1-4 weeks depending the item purchased.

All my items are shipped from Spain carefully and nice packaged, for gift.

Refunds and exchanges

-- If lost: You will receive a refund if the package is lost. I'll do after confirmation of Postal Service.
-- If delayed: You will receive the refund of the shipping costs once the package is delivered. A package is considered delayed after four weeks.
-- If damaged: If your package appears to be damaged by the postal services, you have to fill in a report at your post in the moment you receive your package, and send me a scanned copy of the file, in order to verify and proceed with the refund.
-- If unclaimed: Please check your mailbox regularly, shipping costs are your responsability.

Taxes

For international customers/buyers: You are responsible for any and all additional customs charge and/or local taxes, if and when applicable. Please check your local policies and regulations on international packages.
