About

Painting with Coffee in a Cozy Warehouse Studio

Coffee Creations was born in 1997, the happy collision of a beautiful shot of espresso and a bored watercolor artist. I was sitting at the bar of my local coffeeshop and noticed the rich, red-brown color of the espresso pouring from the machine. Hmm... coffee stains things... could it be a paint? A quick experiment opened up worlds of possibility with this new medium.

Mona Latte was my first completed coffee painting. She was a test to see if coffee could handle all the depth of a 'real' painting, and her latte in hand started me on a tour of classic masterpieces. So many masters to learn from, so many fun ways to add a coffee twist to the art (with my sincere respect for the original painting). Now I explore my own compositions and commissioned pieces as well.

My home is in Bend, Oregon, a charming river and mountain town with plenty of outdoor enticements (and a huge proportion of coffeeshops) to keep me inspired. You can find me creating at The Workhouse, a turn of the century warehouse now filled with 9 open studios and a shop. Come to a Sip'n'Dip class at our huge table where you too can paint with coffee while drinking some!

Additional policies and FAQs
Q. What is the best way to frame my print?
A. I often frame my prints without a mat, in a dark wood or wood with subtle gold accents. You can find a great selection of ready-made frames at stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. The white border with hand torn edges also looks nice when laid on a darker mat and framed.

Q. How can I get an original painting instead of a print?
A. I love to do custom work and have done everything from pet portraits to company logos. Please email me at coffeepainter [!at] gmail.com with your ideas. I will soon have more photos showing current unsold original paintings and will be listing them in this store, but for now, please feel free to email me about any painting you see here.

Q.Coffee is an unusual medium; will it last over time?
A. In the 14 years I have been painting with coffee, I have not seen any fading or changing in a finished painting. I do spray my original paintings with a UV protective sealer and varnish.

Q. Do you offer wholesale prices?
A. I do offer reseller options; please contact me for more information.
