Colby June

Colby June is a jewelry designer who lives at the base of majestic Mt. Sopris, just outside Aspen, where she grew up. From a young age, world travel and a connection to "the tiny details in nature" have always been core to Colby June, so it's no surprise both strongly inform her aesthetic. Extended stays in Nepal and Mexico between high school and college were particularly influential in Colby's path to being a jewelry designer. It was during a trip to San Miguel de Allende, in fact, where Colby June took her first jewelry design class and discovered her love for the craft.

Working mostly with precious metals like gold, silver, and bronze, Colby June's pieces are organic and simple in shape -- many resemble delicate twigs, leaves, grass blades, or water-polished stones.

Shaped too by her daughter Perry and her son Christopher's youthful energy and her husband's eye for modern architecture, Colby June Jewelry is both an ode to the wild outdoors and a testament to the underlying structure and balance in nature.

In 2017 1% of Colby June net sales will be donated to Dress for Success.

Nature Inspired Jewelry Collections:

Bone Collection:
The Bone collection is inspired by a small bone found while hiking along the Crystal River near my home in Colorado. The oldest known pieces of jewelry were objects like this piece, with holes drilled in order to wear on string, and in my mind’s eye, I began to picture the Bone Collection.

Through the materials used to create the pieces, the collection displays the oftentimes opposing characteristics of femininity. Soft sunstone, raw rose cut diamonds, and dark onyx set in gold, silver and bronze combine strength and gentleness; secrecy and openness. The pieces incorporate the sharp angles of the bone, its complex textures, and organic shape. The dichotomy of the female warrior is shown through the buildable nature of the pieces as well. Layering necklaces, earrings and an array of stacking rings allow a woman to slip quietly past with one alluring piece or to make

Wing Collection:
Give Yourself Wings and Take Flight. This collection is all about flight and the sense of freedom that birds effortlessly embody. In awe of the beauty and function of the wing, Colby June has created a collection that details the wing in a distinctive and elegant way. Focusing on the curvy contours of bird wings and feathers, this collection makes a powerful statement. The collection brings forth the bold and powerful hawk or wise and mysterious raven taking flight. The pieces are handcrafted in bronze, silver, and 14k gold, punctuated by black onyx and sunstone. There are both dainty pieces and larger statement pieces, which can be stacked and layered indefinitely.

Pinecone Collection:
The pinecone collection was inspired by a look inward at self, nature, and balance. Throughout history and across cultures, pinecones have been symbolic of inner growth, the third eye, and penial gland. A pinecone is an amazing feat of nature that is organized in a very predictable geometric pattern which is not always immediately obvious. Studying a pinecone gives you the satisfaction of finding order in something that can at first appear chaotic. The intricacies and complex nature of the pinecone, both aesthetically and symbolically, were difficult to process and translate into simple styles and unique pieces of jewelry. Leaf Collection:
I had been imagining a leaf collection for quite a while but when I finally had the time to produce the collection it was winter in the Colorado Mountains. This lead me to find dried willow leaves along the irrigation ditch that runs near the Crystal River. The dried leaves poking out of the snow were perfect inspiration. I loved the way they twisted and curled. The leaf veins were more pronounced and I liked the way the dried leaves hung together as a group. They were beautiful and dramatic.

Coral Collection:
Coral Collection is a departure from our signature sticks and stones pieces. This collection incorporates the various textures and form of a single piece of coral. The Coral Collection is a striking juxtaposition of simplicity and intricate detail. These pieces will ignite the urge in all of us to get to the beach and find our own treasures!

The Nest collection: These pieces are representations of the beautiful sculptural homes created by birds. The Nest pieces are one-of-a-kind. I build each one out of wax and then cast them.

Compose Decompose: This collection is a study of sticks and stones. This has been our most popular collection. The smooth and lightly textured rocks feel so soothing to touch while the detailed branch forms are delicate and sensual.

The Grama and Seed Collections: These collections were inspired by Colorado’s native grasses. The detail, intricacy and diversity of all the grasses I photographed hiking in Colorado inspired me to get back to metal working and start my current business.
