Updates

Happy New Year! I’ve recently had my first professional photos taken of my jewellery so I’ve got a lot of updating to do with my lovely new images. Here’s a little look at my Colour Dot Pendants and Tiny Dot Pendants captured by Farnwood Photography.

About

Colourful, contemporary and happy jewellery!

My name is Clare and I make colourful, contemporary, easy to wear jewellery using sterling silver, polymer and resin clays. I am completely obsessed with colour and spend far too long mixing clays like paint to create a never ending palette of colours and I hand roll and cut all of my beads. I keep the shapes and styles of my jewellery simple to allow the colour to be the focal point - I love putting colours together and sometimes the shades that you would never think harmonious together just seem to work.

After studying Fine Art and Literature at Uni, I studied for an MA in literature and then got a rather laborious grown up job. I've always been creative and have made 'stuff' all of my life and knew that I would always (one day) set up my own creative business. I started to learn silver smithing and using precious metals to make jewellery about 12 years ago now and 2 years ago my little business became my full time job and I love it.

I wanted to create a range of jewellery that was just really about glorious colours and I wanted to be able to control the colour and mix my own shades and tones and both polymer and resin clay allow me to create the most wonderful colours.

I make all of my jewellery entirely by hand in my little studio in Frome in South West England in an old converted textiles mill which is now home to over 20 artists and designers. I now have two creative businesses; Colour Designs and I also make bridal accessories.

You can find out more on my websites http://www.colour-designs.co.uk and http://www.clarelloyd.co.uk.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

I use polymer clay for my handmade beads and I use resin clay for the coloured inlay in studs, earrings, rings and small pendants.

Resin Clay is hard wearing and easy to look after. Each piece is made over a period of three days. I custom colour all of the resin and once it has cured, it is filed and sanded to a smooth matt finish that resembles softly coloured stone.

To keep the resin clay inlays and polymer clay beads looking at their best, please gently clean the silver and polymer clay / resin with mild soapy water using a very soft brush and dry thoroughly. Please avoid contact with chemicals such as perfumes, chlorine, anything abrasive or acetone (nail varnish remover)

Colour Accuracy

As my jewellery is predominantly about colour, I mix all of my custom colours to a Pantone equivalent. As all computer monitors display colours differently, please be aware that the real life jewellery may appear a slightly different colour than shown on your screen.

I do my very best to portray colours as accurately as possible but screen settings and monitors will show colours differently. If you need an exact colour match, please contact me and I will send you the Pantone colour reference.

Sizing details

- RINGS -

Most of my rings are difficult or impossible for me to resize so it is very important to get this bit right. Most high street jewellers will be able to measure your fingers for you at no cost.

My rings are listed in UK sizes.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of my jewellery is gift boxed and protected with tissue paper before being placed inside a sturdy cardboard postal box. My gift boxes, tissue, ribbon, business cards and postal boxes are all made of either fully or partially recycled materials so there's a little bit less mean stuff being done to the environment.

Sizing details

- SIZES, MEASUREMENTS, DIMENSIONS OF JEWELLERY -

Please see each item description for details of the size of my jewellery. I try to list all measurements in both centimetres, millimetres and inches so you can check whether an item is going to be right for you.

Some of my designs, especially my Colour Dot stud earrings are very tiny so please make sure you read the descriptions and measurements carefully to make sure the size is what you're looking for. If you have any queries at all, please contact me and I'll do my very best to help.
