5 out of 5 starsWow. This is such a pretty thing! I am amazed how colourful plant dyes are! Didn't know. This will be used a dice bag for my very special dice (I have a lot since I play P&P).
I am relived that there is only bags on the site to buy. If it was socks, hats or gloves I would be lost. Good thing I can't knit ;)
Very very quick delivery from such a far away place. Thanks! -

Walking hand in hand with nature! Shetland wool from sheep grazing in the wild Northern isles - dyed in natural colours using plants from Shetland
I discovered colour from plants at a very young age and still feel the same excitement now when I watch fibres take in the natural dye colour.
I moved to Shetland in 2000 and it was not long before people began to ask if they could purchase naturally dyed wool.
I have been creating a dye garden which grows local indigenous dye plants as well as some whose natural home lies far away, a slow and challenging process in the harsh Northern climate.
Spindrift Crafts was set up as a friend, and myself, began to sell our craft items in the Isles.
The interest in naturally dyed products has grown over the last couple of years and so I decided to set up the Etsy shop.
I dye the fibres and create items when I am able, the whole process is slow and gentle taking time. The plants have to be harvested, fibres mordanted and dye vats created before the actual dyeing can take place.
Being so close to nature is a healing and beautiful experience as I tend the dye plants and extract their colours.
The ecological and sustainable aspect of natural dyeing is very important to me, especially in today's society where the textile market is so toxic to the environment with all the chemical disposal of dye stuffs.
My journey with natural dyes has sustained me mentally and physically as I live with a disability. Nature is a good friend and I recommend getting to know her to everyone who walks on Mother Earth :)

I live in Shetland growing and using dye plants to colour wool and fabrics using both traditional vat and also ecoprint methods. Working with natural dyes, and making small textile items, is a rewarding experience, nature's colours are beautiful!
