Announcement   If you have more pictures of your dog on your phone than of your spouse, you're in the right place.

I get you.

The first thing people do when they hear I make pet portrait jewelry is whip out their phone and show me pictures of their animals.

I love that. I live for that. That's what I'm about!

I started making portrait jewelry after losing a very special dog-
That day came when I couldn't quite remember the texture of his fur, or the way he smelled, or exactly what his bark sounded like, or the sound he made in anticipation of his supper. The ache of his absence was already nearly unbearable: This forgetting of all the nuances of his "dogness" shattered me.

Creating a piece of jewelry- something tangible- helped me feel a physical connection to his memory.

It was my dog that led me into the life of jewelry making. But I've always loved to create. And from the first time my parents hung one of my childhood scribbles on the fridge, I realized I also love to create art for others.

Though this path started with my dog, I cherish the personal connections I make with people when I create jewelry for them. Not all my customers are "dog people" but they're are all heart centered.

I call myself a "Sentimental Metalsmith" because that, to me, is the best and most literal way to describe what I do. I have a Masters Degree in Social Work, but over the past 10 years, I've mastered a different sort of social-work: Connecting with others and creating customized, personal and one of a kind jewelry to honor life's milestones and memories. Jewelry that invites you to wear your love.

Thanks so much for visiting my shop.

About the Artist-erin l. meharg harris

If your phone has more photos of your pet than your spouse, you’re in the right place.

I get you.

I started making portrait jewelry after losing an awesome dog-

That day came when I couldn't quite remember the texture of his fur, or the way he smelled, or exactly what his bark sounded like, or the sound he made in anticipation of his supper.  The ache of his absence was already nearly unbearable:  This forgetting of all the nuances of his "dogness" shattered me.

Creating a piece of jewelry- something tangible- helped me feel a physical connection to his memory.

It gave me a container:  A way to hold those memories.  A way to touch them.

It was my dog that led me into the life of jewelry making.  But I've always loved to create.  And from the first time my parents hung one of my childhood scribbles on the fridge, I realized I also love to create art for others. I cherish the personal connections I make with people when I create jewelry for them.

I call myself a "Sentimental Metalsmith" because that's what I do. Sentimental work in metal.  I have a Masters Degree in Social Work, but over the past 10 years, I've mastered a different sort of social- work:  Connecting with others and creating customized, personal and one of a kind jewelry to honor life's milestones and memories.  Jewelry that invites you to wear your love.

I started making commemorative jewelry after losing my dog Gonzo. The silver lining of losing my dog too young, is the opportunity it has given me to connect to others. intended he'd be.

Additional policies and FAQs
I currently offer several different styles of commemorative jewelry and reliquaries. I am also quite happy to work with individual ideas and requests to come up with a design that is distinct and meaningful.

The styles of Commemorative Jewelry:

Reliquary-
This is an incredibly personal piece, imprinted with the image of your choice on the front (typically images are taken from a photograph of a loved one, but you might also use a meaningful symbol, shape or other significant image-like a logo, wedding date, baby's hand or foot print, etc) The opposite side of the pendant features a window which displays contents (a lock of hair, a scrap from a well-worn shirt, soil from a favorite park or final resting ground, fur, fuzz from a toy, a photograph, sand from the beach you were married on-anything that you'd like, that helps strengthen your memories of the loved one or special event that you are memorializing). A name and date may be added above or below the window.

These sterling silver pendants measure approximately 1.25" and come on a 22" sterling chain which can be lengthened or shortened upon request.

Memorial (or Celebratory)-
This piece is imprinted with an image on one side and a name, date, or phrase on the opposite side. A name (i.e. John Smith) can be added at no extra fee, but longer length names (Johnathon Jackson Everly Smith) or phrases (Forever in my heart) will have an additional fee.

These sterling silver pieces are hollow, but closed (meaning there is nothing contained within). They measure approximately 1.25" and come on a 22" sterling chain which can be lengthened or shortened upon request.

Bell-
I came up with this style because we always "bell" our dogs when we go hiking with them in the woods. The bells help us keep track of where the dogs are. They make a sweet sound in sterling silver.
They are imprinted with an image on side, and can have a name or phrase on the other. They can also be imprinted with your pet's name, address, and phone number as an I.D. tag.

These measure approximately 1" in diameter and come on a 22" sterling chain which can be lengthened or shortened upon request.

Photo-
These pieces have an image on one side and the back has space to tuck in a small photo. The measure approximately 1" in diameter and come on an 18" sterling silver chain.

I have also done cufflinks, keychains and watch-style bracelets, and am quite happy to work with you to come up with a unique piece.

To order
1.) Contact me for a custom listing.
2.) Pay the deposit (50% of the list price).
3.) E-mail your image(s)to elmeharg [!at] gmail.com
4.) I will render your image into a black and white outline, then send the reworked image to you for your approval before creating your customized pendant or reliquary. The image that you see will be exactly what is impressed into the metal. Two re-works are included in the price of the piece. Additional re-works will be charged at $30/hour.
5.) Send any items you would like contained in a reliquary to the artist (address will be provided via email once order has been processed)
6.) Custom pendants or reliquaries will take 6-8 weeks to complete from the time they are purchased and paid for. Please note this time frame is an estimate and pieces may take less or more time, depending on the season.

Please keep in mind that this pendant will portray a simplistic rendition of your pet.
