About CompassRoseStudio

I love working one-on-one with clients to create genuinely unique and inspiring designs.

Hi! I'm Amy, owner of Compass Rose Studio, and an independent artist with over a decade of illustration and print production experience.

I started drawing when I was old enough to hold a pencil and simply never stopped. As an innate animal lover, my early years were dedicated to bringing animals to life on paper. When I wasn’t drawing bunnies and chipmunks, I focused on gorgeous landscapes; likely, the product of growing up with a forest for a backyard and a creek where a swimming pool would traditionally go. I drew anything and everything around me.

To this day I stick to my roots. Before touching a keyboard and mouse, I start with my sketchbook and pencil. I opened Compass Rose Studio because I truly enjoy working with clients at a personal level to create custom, hand-crafted stationery.

Thank you for visiting my shop!

-Amy Mac

What's in a name, Compass Rose Studio?

A compass rose has been illustrated on maps, oceanic charts, and historic atlases since as early as 1200AD to display direction (N, NE, S, SE, W, etc...).

My passion for art, the sea, and vintage maps was the inspiration for Compass Rose Studio. The word compass is based on the Latin word 'com' (together) and 'passus' (a step or pace). In a sense, the milestone you are celebrating in your life and the direction you're headed. The 'rose' is derived from the elaborate and ornate petal designs illustrated on early compasses. Together, Compass and Rose is quite beautiful.

    Everything Else

Mike, my amazing husband, handles "everything else" behind the scenes at Compass Rose Studio, so I can focus on creating new designs and working one-on-one with my clients (what I enjoy the most!). This is his favorite photo from our wedding!

  • Buffy

    Studio Manager

We immediately saw Buffy's potential when we adopted her from the Humane Society nearly 16 years ago. She goes above and beyond, by volunteering part of her day to secure the Studio. The other part of her day is dedicated strictly to napping.

  • Duncan

We adopted this banana-loving bunny from an animal shelter in Los Angeles. After eating his breakfast salad, Duncan lounges around the studio all day and makes us smile.
