Clothing with a Conscience

I started Conscious Clothing in 2001 with the birth of my second child. I was concerned about the baby products available at that time. I started making diapers and diaper covers, blankets and clothing and realizing how important organics were to the health of my children and the planet!
From that point I saw there was also a need for sustainable adult clothing as well and began to sew and sell my products. Using all my own designs and specializing in natural fibers, Conscious Clothing blossomed.
Years later I am still committed to using the most eco-friendly products and fabrics I can find. I employ local labor whenever possible and consider the footprint of my company at every turn.
I live and work in Rockford, MI with my 4 children; Luna, Tigerlily, Ian, Wilder, my husband Doug, and our dog Coco (who secretly runs the whole show)!

Everything in my shop is made to order! Every Conscious Clothing order is made just for you. This is what makes Etsy and handmade so special! There is no factory full of workers, no warehouse full of products, just a family and some good friends at sewing machines talking, laughing, and creating!

Be certain to look at ‘Item Details’ tab on each product you intend to purchase. Extra measurement options and specs will be listed to help you get just the right fit and will differ from item to item.

I use only the highest quality when it comes to hemp and hemp blends. Hemp is among the strongest natural fibers in the world. It resists mold, mildew and odors and can be grown without pesticides or other harmful chemicals.
>>The summer-weight Hemp Linen is used for pants and skirts and is now 100% certified organic. Washes beautifully and looks and feels similar to linen.
>>Organic Linen, organically grown flax is milled into the most beautiful linen! It is lightweight for summer tops and dresses and softens with each wash!
>>Our Hemp/Organic cotton fleece is a warm and cozy fabric similar in weight and appearance to a sweatshirt. It is fuzzy on one side and smooth on the other.
>>The Hemp/Organic cotton jersey blends and Stretch hemp/organic cotton jersey blends are used for tops, skirts, sweatshirts and long sleeved dresses. This fabric is remarkably warm and cozy.
>>Bamboo/organic cotton is super smooth and silky soft. It has a touch of lycra for stretch and to maintain its shape. Used in all lightweight projects like summertime skirts and dresses. Bamboo grows at such a rapid rate that it is an utterly renewable resource making it perfect for fabric!
>>The Organic Cotton jersey is now from a local/domestic source!! It has been grown and milled here in the United States. It is soft and stretchy and used for dresses, yoga pants and tops. A main staple for the conscious consumer's wardrobe!

All of my fabrics (except for the bamboo/organic cotton blends) are hand dyed using all natural, low impact dyes. These are fiber reactive dyes that use a soda ash fixer and will not fade with wash. They differ from dyebath to dyebath however, so while you can be assured that the color is similar, the shades may range from dark to light. Dyeing is an art and the colors do vary from one dyebath to the next making it evermore unique.
Also keep in mind that the colors of the actual garment may be different than how they look in the photos depending on your computer's resolutions, I do my absolute best to match everyone's color requests!!
Please wash hand-dyed garments separately in cold water as bleeding may occur the first few washes.
