The story behind Consider the World

My name is Emily, and I've started Consider the World as a source for unique hand painted globes. The name Consider the World comes from the first verse of the hymn How Great Thou Art. I've had the blessing of traveling all over the world in the last few years, and when I hear the lyrics, "consider all the worlds Thy hands have made," I picture all the amazing people and places I've come to love. The song encourages us to worship God when we witness his creation.

When I see different locations on the globes as I'm painting them, I picture the people I know there. There are so many big needs around the world, and one of my goals is to help others consider the world in the way they live. Through storytelling and art I hope to share some of the needs I've seen.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of these globes will go to certain organizations who are helping some of the people I've met.

In 2016 I spent time in Greece working in the refugee camps on the island of Lesvos. I got to meet and talk with hundreds of people who are fleeing their homes in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries. Everyone I talked to was so kind and so similar to us, except their home is no longer safe. Although the refugee crisis is no longer the top story on most news stations, it is still very much happening, and so much help is still needed. There are many organizations doing great work, and one of them is called the Preemptive Love Coalition.

Preemptive Love believes radically loving people in zones of conflict in the world can change things. They define themselves as "a global movement of peacemakers changing the way we engage the world’s most polarizing conflicts by confronting fear with acts of love." They provide heart surgeries, education, peacemaking, and emergency relief to families living in or fleeing from conflict zones. Many of these people cannot get access to medical care, education, or basic necessities because their cities are controlled by ISIS, so Preemptive Love goes to them.

Part of why I started Consider the World and I'm painting globes is to help us all consider the world in our daily lives. So a portion of the proceeds from the sales of Consider the World will be donated to Preemptive Love to help provide for people just like the ones I met in Greece. Hopefully fewer of them will be forced to flee their homes and become refugees if someone meets them where they are with love and a helping hand.

Thanks so much for helping me help them! If you have any questions or are interested in a custom order, just send me a message!
