Honestly I'm not sure how to review this item without being an ungrateful turd. The seller was very patient with me during the planning phase and there were no real problems receiving my order. She even worked with me to get the cost down. However when I received the pattern the instructions were very minimal and written on each piece with no assembly order and nowhere to put the zipper. We talked to her and she emailed us some instructions and some hand drawn diagrams and that did kind of help. But between me, my mother, mother in law, grandma in law, and one of my bridesmaids [all of whom have years of sewing experience] we just can't get it to work. Now we're out of time and having to alter a simplicity pattern that was only $20. For me at least this was a waste of time and money. Maybe her non custom orders are better?

About

Custom made vintage sewing patterns

It all started with me making my own clothing according to my own particular tastes. Ever since I was very young, I’ve never quite understood why we should all follow some pre-determined rules of fashion – this despite having grown up in a family that ran a clothing shop! Why should I wear what someone else dictates is “in” this year? Year in and year out, there are new colors and shapes to keep up with.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that I dislike fashion. I especially like clothing from the 1900s, 1920s and 1960s, and there are many clothing designers working today that I admire. But what I wanted was something that would reflect myself, my personality and the different periods in my life.

So with the help of my aunt and my grandmother, both fantastic seamstresses, I started sewing my own clothes. At the same time, I was experimenting in different areas of art: illustration, lithography and silk-screening, and later on I would get a degree in patternmaking. This has become my passion. I absolutely love making patterns, and jump into each project like an artist creating a sculpture. I’ve been a patternmaker for 12 years now, also giving classes in it and other clothing-related arts such as silk-screening and sewing.

With this shop I hope to connect with like-minded people: those who like to dress in their own unique way, who like to sew, and would like to find that special pattern or create whatever design their imaginations can come up with.

I’d love to hear your ideas. Feel free to get in touch and we’ll talk about bringing your very own personal style to life!

Procedure ( a brief description of what I'm doing)
The base pattern is sketched to give the general shape of the body. Then paper is cut and added to fill out the rest of the pattern and create the details. The flat pattern is then given form to create half of the dress. (As the dress I symmetrical, only half is needed). A clean draft of the pattern is made in detachable flat pieces.

Required time to create the pattern
3-6 hours, depending on the design details of the dress.
Make a miniature replica of the pattern with detachable flat pieces that show how to put the pattern on the fabric.
Print out an image of the desired dress.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

All the patterns in my shop are handmade especially for you.
I'm a pattern maker, and all my patterns are handmade to a standard size or custom size. In order to make the best size for you I need to know as many details as possible. For this reason I need confirmation of your standard size.
Every item in my shop will have an image showing the standard sizes for that item.
If you need any help, just ask!

Custom and personalized orders

I love making custom sewing pattern designs! I can create the pattern from scratch, or from a pattern that you send me. The end result would be exactly what you’re requesting. The price would vary depending of the design.

In order to make a pattern that fits you as perfectly as possible, the more measurements that I can have, the merrier. For custom pattern, I'd ask that you do provide all the measurements that you see on my website – http://contrapunt.weebly.com/taking-measurements.html
even if they might seem a bit unnecessary.

I'll be happy to help you with any questions that you may have. Thank you!

Care instructions

About the sizes of my patterns, you can choose Standard sizes S, M, L or XL, or I can make the pattern with custom measurements.
All my patterns are the exact size of the dress, hand drawn on white paper, and ready to mark and cut on the fabric, although, as the pattern is the exact size of the dress, I recommend you place it over your skin and "try it on" before you cut.

What is the difference between the bust and the upper bust, where do you measure this?

Each patternmaking method has his own sizes. In addition to this, the way of taking measurements is different depending on the patternmaking method.

I use the Martí System to make my patterns. This system uses a measurement for both upper bust and bust.

To take your measurements I recommend going my page http://contrapunt.weebly.com/taking-measurements.html
I hope this will help you. I’ll be delighted to help you with any other questions you may have.

Is it normal someone’s measurements to fall between two sizes?

It’s quite normal for someone’s measurements to fall between two sizes. I’m a perfect example: size S for the upper part of my body, and size M for the lower half. This kind of thing is normal, and I can adapt the pattern to suit your measurements. For this reason, your real measurements are more important to me than your UK or EU sizes.

To take your measurements I recommend going to my measurements page and taking measurements 7,8 and 11. Just send me these three measurements, and I can tell you what standard size will you need for my patterns. The page is here: http://contrapunt.weebly.com/taking-measurements.html
I hope this will help you. I’ll be delighted to help you with any other questions you may have.

Do you include any instructions with this pattern?

All my patterns are handmade to a standard size or custom size and they contain English or spanish notes as well as notches that make it easy to join the pieces of the pattern together. You'll also receive a cutting diagram that will indicate the length of fabric (in either centimetres or inches, whichever you prefer). I'm afraid they do not include sewing instructions.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll be delighted to help. Thanks!
