COOKED GLASS CREATIONS BY BRUCE COOK

COOKED GLASS CREATIONS BY BRUCE COOK started as a hobby and blossomed into a business following Bruce’s retirement. Bruce first learned the art of glass fusing in San Diego, in 2000. He studied under several accomplished fused glass artists and quickly developed a keen eye for design. Bruce’s early works were glass plates and bowls featuring bold geometric designs. Recognized as unique and high quality, the owner of Lowery’s Hot Glass Studio quickly purchased them to sell alongside their blown art glass pieces.

After relocating to San Antonio, Bruce furthered his education by studying art glass jewelry design at Wired Designs as well as at the Southwest School of Art and Craft. Now living in Georgia, Bruce now focuses his artistic talent on producing eye-catching jewelry for Etsy as well as bowls, plates, vases, and jewelry for sale at craft shows.

Describing the process of creating fused glass jewelry, Bruce explained, "I begin by designing the glass piece. When the design is complete, I then cut the pieces from glass that is especially designed for glass fusing. Typically, each piece is designed to be two layers of glass. The color, texture, thickness and other characteristics of the glass can vary greatly.

Once the glass has been cut it may need to have the edges smoothed, which is accomplished by using a glass grinder.

After the glass has been cut and cleaned it is placed in a kiln, and the glass is heated to approximately 1460 degrees Fahrenheit and then allowed to cool to room temperature. The original two layers of glass have now been fused to become one inseparable piece of glass.

Finally, various findings are attached to complete the piece."
