I bought your twig letters a few years ago for my first daughter's name and they have hung beautifully in her room. When my second daughter was born a few months ago, I did a bit of searching to track down your product online to get for her name. Your twig letters are thoughtful, beautifully handcrafted, and created with such creativity and care. I love bringing a bit of nature indoors through your lovely artwork. I never get tired looking at these works of art. Thank you.

I have been designing and making things for people for 20 years. I have, as one might imagine, made many different things. A creative person is always evolving. I chose this company name because it allowed me to vary the products I sell, while speaking of my love of nature and metal, where the organic meets the inorganic and of the feminine (that part being myself, you know, the ewe is a female sheep…). I like copper best of all because it is a conductor of energy. I have used it often in my work and never tire of working with it. In fact my latest product, the Bubble Wand, is a perfect example of this!! I also use it in my twig letters as it makes the “skeleton” of the more wiggly letters.
The work I do strives to create a complex response in the client. I am a lover of poetry. It is a thing that is resplendent in the simplest of things. The trick is to achieve functional poetry, such that the object or thing that the artisan makes has a seamless, timeless quality to it that resonates with the client’s use or appreciation of the “product”. I am particularly fascinated with the language we use to decode our universe, the traditional crafts which weave our social fabric into a profound appreciation of human tradition, resourcefulness and patience.
I have designed and knit sweaters that depicted the laws of planetary motion as perceived by astronomers dating back to 800BC, created mobiles that echo not only astronomy but molecular magic, made nougat and caramels of every conceivable kind and have been writing poetry out of twigs and wire, mostly one word at a time. The letters have found their way into many homes and many hearts, because they do speak a complex language that is equally simple and graceful.
I have made jewelery for as long as I can remember and while it has changed over the years, my love of wire and weaving is very apparent in my new lines. You can also see echoes of it in my twig letters (i.e. the phinnials came out of earring making). I am great great lover of sculpture and enjoy doing so in wax (with which I have made rings and bronze faeries), clay (with which I’ve made wee clay heads (mini busts), animals and faeries, stone (soapstone mostly). I have also made many cool things in steel (large sculpture, things for the garden, things for the home, small sculpture). This work is echoed in my wire work.
It is my hope to continue to make things that make clients think and where there is an acknowledgement of our mutual appreciation of our world.
Thanks ever so much for your interest in my work. I have had much kind, positive, loving feedback from many people out there who have convinced me that I should keep on making and doing what I do. So many thanks to you all!! Chi Miigwetch.
