CosmosMoonJewelry is taking a short break

Note from shop owner I am currently undergoing treatment for Lyme disease and it’s leaving me too exhausted to keep my shop running as smoothly as normal. For this reason, I’ve decided to shutdown for a short period while I’m healing. I’m hoping to reopen by the end of February, but this really depends upon my energy level and improvement.
Thank you for your understanding and your interest in my shop- you may request a re-open notification so you know when my shop is back and I'll hope to do business with you soon.
Have a good one,

Cosmo's Moon Jewelry: Old world Craftsmanship with a modern Western edge.

I call my work, "Old World meets New West"- let me explain...
I've studied metalsmithing in a variety of settings.. starting as an apprentice in 1986, I worked for a jewelry and silversmith shop in Ogonquit Maine and Portsmouth NH.
I graduated from Tufts University and the Museum School of Boston in 1989, earning a BFA and studio art degree. After graduation, I worked as a metalsmith for a small scale jewelry line in Providence RI.

I loved living in the Boston area, however, the winter weather made me -literally- so, in 1991 I took a chance and moved away from the cold and into the desert southwest; to Tucson Arizona.

In Tucson I found a rich tradition of gems and metalsmithing, and the hot climate - though extreme in the summertime- was much more to my liking.

I did have my moments of homesickness- in fact, I was JUST about to move back to Boston when I met my future husband; an Italian Physicist from Florence Italy.
We married in 1995 and in 1997 moved to Florence Italy, where I was able to enrich my life with Italian culture, language and food...eventually I found a school to further study my metalsmithing craft at the benches of expert Florentine craftsmen.

I spent three years soaking up as much as I could of the Italian lifestyle and metalsmithing techniques. In mid 2000, Guido was called back to the University of Arizona to work on a huge telescope project (the LBT) so we moved back to Tucson, to start our family and life as parents to our son (Cosmo) and where we remain today.

Yes, we return to Italy on a regular basis, where I shake off the cowgirl dust and soak in the majesty of Italian life, landscape and architecture. You can see some of the influences of our trips to the old country in my designs.
The Old World reflects my Italian influences, New West reflects what I love about the southwest. Does that make sense now? I hope so! :-)

re: Quality
I think one of the hardest things to convey when selling my work online is the quality of the craftsmanship and substantial feel of each piece. I never skimp on materials or craftsmanship.
My work has a substantial feel; I make pieces that will stand the tests of time- weighty yet comfortable and impeccably hand crafted.

My mission is to prove that I really DO make things the way "they" used to!

Welcome and Thank you for shopping handmade at Cosmo's Moon Jewelry. My name is Maureen Brusa Zappellini, I am a professional metalsmith and jeweler, showing in galleries, shops, craft shows and boutiques for over 25 years now.

I've studied my craft all over, in New England, Arizona and in Florence Italy. I've lived in all these places, and I now call Tucson Arizona my home. (it's a dry heat)

This jewelry line I call "Cosmo's Moon" is named after my son (Cosmo) and comes from a line in the classic movie "Moonstruck" (back when Nick Cage was still hot).

Cosmo's Moon is earthy edgy and cool silver and mixed metals jewelry that I design and hand make in my small backyard studio.
I do not assemble stuff from hobby shops, no way! this is all original work-
Each piece is made by hand, in my shop, by me. I do not use commercially made pieces, these are all my designs. You are getting handmade designer jewelry straight from the hands and heart of the artist that conceived the design. No sweat shops, no skimping on materials or quality and absolutely no knock offs. The real deal, straight from the hands of the creator with Indie spirit: the original essence of etsy.

Most items in my shop can also be special ordered in gold.(Contact me via etsy for details)

I take great care in the design, craftsmanship and quality of each piece- from the initial idea to the final finish each creation has been refined to create earthy, edgy, beautiful and wearable jewelry that is a unique expression of your individual creativity and style.

thanks again for shopping at Cosmo's Moon Jewelry- and a huge thank you for shopping Handmade!

Returns and exchanges
Hey, it happens- something you thought would be perfect for you turns out to not work after all- I certainly understand- and want to assure you that if you open up your package and simply don't like the piece and want to return it, that's OK.
(I request that you please contact me Via Etsy "contact"and tell me if you plan on sending it back.)

My Requirements for return:

1)The item is required to be returned in it's original UNWORN condition,

2) in it's original packaging (box or pouch) packed with ample padding to protect the item during shipping

3)the piece needs to be shipped back within one week( your package Postmarked within 1 week of your receipt of the order.)
Customer is responsible for all shipping charges.

Returns after 1 week of receipt of goods will be for store credit only.
**I do not accept returns on jewelry that has been obviously worn or damaged by misuse

if a piece breaks (within 30 days of receipt of goods) due to faulty materials please contact me asap and I will work with you on replacing or repairing the problem. If there is a repair needed after the 30 day period, repair charges will be the responsibility of the customer.

While I build each piece to last, sometimes life can get in the way and bump things up a bit- I do repair my work when needed (in 25 plus years of making and selling my handmade jewelry I'm happy to say I've needed to do very few repairs on my pieces)

Repair charges:
As all repairs are different , the repair charges are quoted on a case by case basis.

Ring sizing:
depending on the ring's metal and any design details I would have to re-create ring sizing charges can range from $10-50. (it's usually around 15-25)

Yes, I would be happy to re-finish your piece- after being worn constantly some pieces can use a little touch up now and then. Refinish charges are similar to repair charges- they very from piece to piece- For my more complex pieces like the strap bracelets I charge $45 for a complete re-strap and re-finish (polished metal, new patina) I can make a piece satin finish, tumbled (dull glow) or high polish.
I accept many forms of payment:
Credit Cards, Paypal and Certified Money orders
I accept gift certificates issued either through this shop or through Etsy.
and I also accept personal checks (from US accounts only). note: Items purchased with personal checks are shipped to customer once the check is cleared by my bank.

Fellow Arizona residents- sorry, but in accordance with AZ state laws I am obligated to charge AZ sales tax on all Arizona orders.(this will be added to your total in the paypal checkout)
Be assured, I do pay my state and city business taxes- all AZ tax collected gets sent to the state when I send in my taxes for my business. I can only hope a good chunk of it goes towards education! :-)
I ship first class, United States Postal Service, without shipping insurance (unless specified in item's description) Tracking is included with each shipment- I send a notification email to my customers when I send out each package- the tracking number will be listed in the notification email.
before you complete your order. I often send orders out on the same day. When I get a change of address request after the piece is sent I cannot do anything to change it's destination. That means that the piece will go to the old address, and possibly will be returned to sender (me).

A wrong address is an inconvenience for both myself and the customer- Because of how the post office works a wrong address can make a simple transaction take months instead of days! This breaks my heart, as I make every effort to send each piece out asap after purchase- not to mention the added expense of re-shipping an order.

If a piece is returned to me I send an email to the buyer's address which is in their etsy profile. The customer is responsible for any extra shipping expenses from re-sending a package.

Please note: I will not replace items that are lost in the mail due to incorrect address.
International orders-
customs charges are the responsibility of the buyer. I have no control over customs charges, or the speed of shipping to countries outside of the USA. I will do everything I can to make your items reach you safely, in as little time as possible.
I ship most of my items in a small padded manila envelope
flat items are usually packed in a jewelry baggie, with supporting information and contact info. For example: Nose rings are packed in a small jewelry bag, and include instructions on how to care for and custom size your nose ring hoop.

more 3 dimensional items (like post earrings, rings with stones, bracelets, necklaces and pendants for example) are packed in a small craft paper jewelry box ( made with 100% recycled materials)

Large items (like my pewter boxes) are packed with bubble wrap and shipped in an appropriately sized box.
I pride myself with my fast delivery- in fact, I usually get a piece in the mail the day after it is ordered. However, my OFFICIAL POLICY ON SHIPPING is this: Items that are currently in stock and will ship via United States Postal Service within 5 working days of receipt of payment. Custom ( Made to order) pieces shipping times vary.

In a Rush?
You can usually upgrade to rush delivery- depending on if the piece is in stock and ready to ship. if you have a deadline closing in, and need an asap delivery please let me know and I will do what I can to get it in the mail super fast. I am easy to work with, and want to help my customers get their orders when they need them. I promise also to be honest about the possibility of rush shipping- if I don't believe it can be rush shipped I will say so.
combined shipment
Orders of more than one item going to the same address are mailed together in a box or padded mailer (depending on size of pieces)
Additional policies and FAQs
(You can see my regular return and refund policies in the "refunds" section- )

the following is specific info on Special Orders:Because a special order is made to suit a specific personal request (and is not an item that I would normally carry in my regular inventory) I do not accept returns on Special Orders.

I will do my best to make your special order piece fit your exact requirements-
However, if you receive your special order piece and decide that you aren't happy with the way it turned out (though the piece meets the description that we agreed upon when the piece was ordered) I will make an honest effort to make it work for you...within reason.

I will not re-make or modify beyond the original speculations that were originally agreed upon at the initial purchase

At the most, I may offer store credit if I see any possibility of selling the special order item to another customer (if I think it could fit back in my inventory). I will do my best to make things work for both buyer and seller, within reasonable limits of time, material and expertise.

I reserve the right to decide whether or not to enter into a special order agreement
I also pledge that I will only take on projects that I am certain that my time and skill sets will allow.

I will never take a project that I am not 100% certain that I can complete with the highest level of craftsmanship and professional service.
