About

The sewing bug….

I was officially bitten by the sewing bug at about the age of seven when Santa brought me a little pink sewing machine that I still have today. Fast-forward several decades, many sewing classes and several real sewing machines later…. I was introduced to this creative community called Etsy. I was immediately hooked and knew I had found a way to do what I enjoy most…exercising my artistic side while helping people create a unique and beautiful space. Couchdwellers was born.

The Fabric…..

Lets face it, fabric is probably the most important part of a beautifully crafted pillow cover. One of the things I enjoy most about my work is the process of hunting for new and interesting fabrics every day. Whether it’s online or scouring my local fabric shops, I mostly look for high-end woven upholstery fabrics that are modern in design, contemporary and classic in style. I pride myself on offering a variety of colors, textures and patterns that are unique and probably can’t be found any other décor shop. If I didn’t love the hunt I couldn’t do what I do!

Other Interests…..

I love interior design and attended the American Institute of Interior Design at Santa Cruz. I enjoy applying my DIY skills with my husband on our mid-century modern home in Tempe Arizona. Before I came to run my shop on Etsy I worked as a design consultant for the largest Home Improvement retailers for more than 20 years (yikes, scary when you say it out loud). A few of our recent projects have included tearing out a few walls, new wood flooring throughout, tile floors and tile backsplashes, wallpapering, furniture refinishing and gallons and gallons of paint to name a few. We’ve found that although a much slower process, it’s truly rewarding to complete these home projects yourself rather than pay someone else to do it. You enjoy it so much more in the end. And when I’m not knee deep in a bucket of paint I love to get outside and hike the many miles of trails that Arizona has to offer. I can’t stay crouched over a sewing machine 24/7!

enough about me…….lets go shopping!

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a fabric sample?

Absolutely! I would be happy to send you a free fabric sample for color and texture verification

How do I properly measure an existing pillow insert so that I get the best fit?

Use a firm (ie, a carpenter's) tape measure, rather than a flexible (ie, a tailor's) measuring tape for the most accurate results.
DO NOT measure the pillow diagonally. DO NOT measure the pillow across its center.
Pillow dimensions are based on measuring along the edge of the pillow, not the width of the stuffed pillow. Once filled with insert, the height and width will be slightly less than the measurements ordered. For example, an 18"x18" pillow will have perceived finished dimensions of 17" × 17" when stuffed.

Can I request a custom size?

Absolutely! Just be sure to follow the above instructions on how to properly measure an insert for best fit, as custom sizes are not returnable
