IN MY VISION OF THE WORLD SUSTAINABILITY IS AFFORDABLE AND ATTAINABLE FOR ALL.
Welcome to my shop, Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to chat.
I taught myself to make these for fun and I plan to stop when its no longer fun. The first step to making anything in this shop COZY is diverting the textiles used from entering the waste stream too early in their life cycle. Actively doing anything possible to put fast fashion out of business is enough to make anyone feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.
EDIT* I do NOT buy materials I have plenty of waste streams flooding into my workspace constantly at this point in my life.
EDIT** I will be donating 30% of the profit I make to Post Landfill Action Network (PLAN)
PLAN is a five-year-old student-run organization that informs college students about the waste crisis and equips them with the skills and resources to implement solutions to waste in their campus communities through conferences, workshops, internships, trainings, and events both online and regionally. PLAN gave me a space to teach what I do as an upcycle artist at the 2018 Students for Zero Waste conference and I was able to get there thanks to PLAN's subsidized pay what you can admissions fee. It is my turn to give back and I have chosen plan over other environmentally focused organizations because PLAN is literally giving the next generation the tools they need to be better stewards of the earth, and I know from experience that the things you learn from PLAN stay with you for life.

5 out of 5 starsI absolutely love my rug!! In fact I've sent two as gifts to family since I purchased mine. It's so awesome that they are made of recycled materials! Our fur babies love it too.

5 out of 5 starsBeautiful! Very soft underfoot and larger than I expected. I appreciate the artistry and time it takes to make these rugs. It's so refreshing to be able to buy homegoods that are sustainably made in the USA. Worth the investment!

Rethink. Reuse. Rug.
Hello, welcome to Cozy Floor Coverz!
Most people who know me call me Chewy Louie (based off a children's book) as I am almost always eating. My biggest calling in life so far seems to be preventing waste. From excessive packaging to food waste I one hundred percent believe that waste is collectively humanity's biggest design flaw and more needs to be done to prevent waste at all levels of society no matter the perceived cost because really nothing we else we care about matters if we cannot breathe air or drink clean water anymore.
♻️ Anyways! (keeping this to a hopeful note) This hobby/page/shop is one of the reasons I have been able to start sleeping a little better at night now that I know I am doing my VERY small part in tackling our solid waste problem.
♻️ Young Chewy grew up in the affluent northern Virginia area where the average person discards 80 lbs of clothing each year. Growing up I would have also been part of this hugely offensive statistic if my mom hadn't hoarded all the clothes that I ever wore. Some brownie points are due to mama because she DID lend some of the clothes out to a few other children that grew up around me. However, these clothes were returned in such poor shape my mother no longer wanted to keep them and they ALMOST ended up landfill right then! Except now 11(ish)-year-old me was now self-aware enough that this was not a good thing so I hid them in the basement for five+ years, in which I didn't touch them at all, almost like past me expected current me to have this hobby!! Now, if you are now wondering... the answer is YES the 1st rugs I made were indeed created from this stockpile of old clothing as well as a couple failed clothing experiments of my high school days.
♻️Nowadays, single event clothing and textile waste are increasingly overabundant worldwide and are clearly already a huge (deadly) burden to society at all levels, with no signs of slowing down... I am still here today finger crocheting while crying watching nature documentaries just like it was in the beginning. Before cozyfloorcoverz had a name.
[FUNFACT]
Each of my rugs weighs between 3 and 10 pounds so in making 6.5 rugs I am able to offset one person's 80lbs yearly average textile waste. #nerdshit

If fast fashion and throwaway culture are issues that interest you, and you want to learn more a great place to start is by reading or watching some documentaries!! To name a few: The True Cost (documentary), the RiverBlue (documentary), and Cradle to Cradle (Book by William McDonough & Micheal Braungart)

Most of these rugs are very durable, they can handle being both washed and/or dried. However, every rug is different and every rug is upcycled, therefore it is difficult to be sure which fabrics are in each one. Message me if you have questions about the origins of each fabric, and please use your best judgment. For example, If your rug has feathers in it remove them before washing.
Gift wrapping and packaging
Rugs and pillows are sent in cardboard boxes. The goal of this shop is to reduce and reuse so the box housing your order is often several uses into its life.
*Feel free to request gift wrapping, I recently recovered several perfectly fine rolls from a mall dumpster that are perfect for any occasion if you purchase is being sent as a gift :)
What if my rug doesn't lay flat?
All of the rugs are shown in the pictures of how they are meant to lay. If you receive your box and its not laying flat try 1st tugging it into shape as you desire if problems persist please feel free to contact me.
