This little card looked to me like my sister and me. Diane personalized it for me with our names and "Since 1959" It turned out so cute! She even sent a bonus card that also looked like the same girls dressed as angels. I loved them both and just sent both to my sister-- one filled with serious stuff and the other with humorous stuff. I received it in only a couple days from my order. Thank you, Diane.

About

Art is never finished... only Abandoned ~~~~ Leonardo da Vinci

When I was little my mom did art shows. I liked to draw but... I really wanted to be a writer from the time I was very young. When I had my son I worked in a Psych hospital and though it was rewarding, it was a full time job and it didn't leave me a lot of time to spend with my son. When I had my daughter, I prayed for a way to be able to stay home with them both.
One day my neighbor asked us to her son's birthday party. Not having a lot of money to buy a gift, I painted a picture of her two kids in a bath tub, with the boy's names on towels that were her bathroom's color scheme. She worked at Toyota's corporate offices at the time, and unbeknownst to me, took the painting to work with her to show her friends and promptly came home with forty orders for me and that is actually how it all really began.

My first art show was kind of a flop. I had no idea what I was doing or how to display my paintings. So I decided that I was going to learn from all of my mistakes. During that show, I went and studied all the booths that had shoppers packed in them and took notes. And the next year I did that very same art show and made one thousand dollars that first hour of that show! And never looked back. Not that all of my shows were as successful, but it inspired me.

In the end, I settled into an up and rising Art Show in Southern California called Sugar Plum Festivals and followed them for years. They kept adding shows through out the years and they alone kept me very busy. In the course of educating myself, one of the things I learned was to not just have children's paintings. During that time, the mop doll phase was the rage and I was pretty successful. I even had a rep and an account for Longs Drug Stores when they were just adding their gift sections. Mop dolls phased out but I continued to develop a doll line. And turned my children's paintings into a card line with over 100 cards in my line. Along with a book that I wrote to my daughter called "Did You Imagine Me?" As an answer to her question.

In support of me, my husband and my in-laws and I opened up a gift shop called Rose In The Woods. It was very successful. We were in the black and holding our own and a lot of the success came from things I learned from Sugar Plum (which is still a well attended favorite of Festival goers for the last 38 years and going strong!) We'd done especially well that last Christmas season in 2003 and then December 22nd an earthquake hit and our little store was just a rose beneath the rubble. A story all of it's own that can be found on my blog at www.dianereedwiter.wordpress.com
A little too long to tell here.

After the earthquake both my husband and I had to reinvent our lives and for the past fourteen years I've worked for other people. This past fall, I found out that my job was being eliminated as Event Coordinator and thought that I'd dust off my Studio door and with my dear husband's loving support, I am back! And I am going to make the BEST shot at it as I can! I have to say that I have been floundering a bit. My first attempts have ended up on the scrap floor. But who knows... maybe some of those first attempts will be collectibles someday! I did have a following when I stopped creating. Hopefully I can find my way and let them know I am back!

When I was growing up, my mom did art shows. When my kids were growing up, I did art shows. My daughter has even followed in those same footsteps and had a season of doing art shows all of her own. And now I've come back to reopen my shop!
