On Etsy since 2015

snail mail junk for sensitive punks.

follow me on instagram! @craftordiy.art

craft or diy started at the 2nd "make it on your own" at the horror parlour in west chester, pa in 2011. it was the most honest to goodness punk rock flea market i’ve ever been a part of, held in a spacious yard with musical acts & free tables. i spent a few months crafting relentlessly to prepare for it, and the leftovers from that event turned into craft or diy. it was mail-order only til 2015 when i made an etsy shop.

everything in my shop is handmade by me (alyssa giannini, they/them pronouns!) if i can help it, but it's all designed by me. the buttons, zines, cards and prints are made in-house, stickers are outsourced. all of my packaging is compostable, recyclable or recycled!

craft or diy is currently based out of so-called olympia, wa; a long way away from its birthplace in lancaster, pa. zines have become my primary focus, though i still love designing buttons! most of my zines are informational guides & perzines (personal zines). all of them contain illustrations & text with a heavy focus on mental health, the diy music community, gender stuff and relationships/friendship. i've made 40+ zines and counting since craft or diy's humble beginnings. you can read my entire archive digitally, and/or subscribe to my patreon to get a copy of every new zine i put out at patreon.com/craftordiy.

i have met so many lasting friends & pen pals through this creative venture and now it's my wholeass job! i appreciate your support, diy is rad!

Returns and exchange details
if your purchase has been damaged or lost in the mail, message me and i can refund you (or send you a free replacement, if it's not a 1-of-a-kind thing). please read on.

bad address policy:
if i'm unable to verify your address with usps and you don't get back to me with a different address after my second contact with you, i reserve the right to cancel the order or ship it at your peril, at which point it will not be eligible for free replacement if it doesn't reach you/is returned to me.

replacements for missing mail:
please wait 7 business days from the date of shipping before contacting me to request a replacement. if it hasn't been 7 days, or it's right around 7, i may ask you to hang tight for a day or two in case your package has been delayed slightly, then send a replacement after those couple days are up. i only send replacements to addresses that are verified by usps- so if your address isn't verified, i will ask that you provide me with a po box or verifiable address of a friend. i send replacements for free, but i accept tips in the form of kindness and/or tips.

i will only send one free replacement, please allow 7 business days for it to arrive from the time of shipping. if your replacement doesn't arrive for some reason, i'll have lost all faith in usps and i can refund you if you want me to.

sometimes packages get marked delivered by mistake- if it hasn't ben 7 days, please hang tight.

if your thing got damaged in the mail, send me a picture and i'll send a replacement or refund (your choice).

BAD ADDRESS POLICY
pleaseeeee make sure your address is accurate before ordering!! or let me know if it's inaccurate asap after ordering. a “bad address” is an address that isn’t verified by USPS.

bad addresses result in delivery delays or worse, trigger a return to sender. i verify all addresses with USPS before I ship them, to make every assurance that they safely reach their destinations. you can verify your address yourself if you want, using the USPS website zip lookup, or smartystreets.com single address verification.

what happens if my address is bad?
i will contact you to let you know i can’t verify your address. the best case scenario is it’s just a matter of a typo needing fixed, a missing apartment number, etc. sometimes it still can’t be verified, even though it seems correct. if that’s the case, there are a few options:

- if you regularly receive mail at the address with no issue, i can ship it at your peril and hope it arrives. i do not send replacements to unverified addresses. if it’s been 7 business days since your order shipped and it hasn’t arrived, contact me and i can refund you, or you can provide me with an alternative address to send a replacement to (see below).

- the safest option is to provide me with an alternate, verifiable address of a friend or family member (or po box). i will ship to your name c/o their name, and you can retrieve it from them when it arrives.

- if you don’t wanna fuss with any of that, i can cancel your order and refund you.

if i'm unable to verify your address with usps and you don't get back to me with a different address after my second contact with you, i reserve the right to cancel the order or ship it at your peril, at which point it will not be eligible for free replacement if it doesn't reach you/is returned to me.

SHIPPING & PACKAGING
i ship first class USPS and orders go out twice a week, all with etsy postage so they all have some kind of tracking (usps first class letter has tracking within etsy, but not USPS). i ship things out between 3 and 5 business days after purchase, and items take 3-7 days to get to you once they are in the hands of usps. if it's been more than 7 business days since your order shipped and it hasn't arrived, contact me.

all of my packaging is either compostable/biodegradable, recyclable, recycled or reused! i ship using recycled/salvaged shipping materials where possible, and try to keep my packaging to a minimum. i save bubble mailers and butcher paper and reuse it. when i buy shipping materials, i buy recycled envelopes where possible; my button envelopes are 100% biodegradable. i ship my prints with some kind of recycled backer in the envelope when i can, so if you're like, "why did they send me this weird piece of garbage?" - that's why!
Additional policies and FAQs
*how "mark as gift" works: friendly fyi, if you mark something as a gift when you order, make sure to provide the accurate address of the person you want the gift sent to (you can convo me or include a note with your order). you may also include a gift note, and i will write it out and include it (this works especially well when ordering cards as gifts). i will then send the thing you ordered to the person it is a gift for, along with the note if applicable. if you mark as gift without giving an address of the gift recipient, it just ships to you like a regular order (etsy doesn't explain this, and a lot of people don't seem to know).
Privacy
i don’t store or use your info for anything! if you've ordered from my shop previously, i might acknowledge it and thank you in a note in your order, but that's the extent to which your info is used.

Frequently asked questions
why don’t you ship buttons outside the usa?

the reason is buttons are non-machinable, so they can’t ship usps international letter (like zines and stickers can). buttons have to ship usps first class international package, the base price for which is $14. and a button costs like a $1 and some change. it’s just not worth it for the buyers. but if you wanna pay 14x the cost of a button to get it shipped to you, i will oblige.

why don't you offer international shipping anymore?

to put it simply, etsy's star seller program threw a wrench in the way i used to do international shipping, and now the only option is for the buyer to pay astronomical fees or for me to use non-etsy postage and have it count against my star seller status. if you'd like to order from me and aren't in the united states, you can get stickers, zines, and other paper stuff (still not buttons, sorry!) from my web shop: https://craftordiy.shop

how do i download my pdf?

when you purchase digital goods on etsy, they'll appear in your "purchases and reviews" with a download link (etsy also supposedly sends you an email with the link). you can get to the "purchases and reviews" page by clicking the "your account" drop-down menu in the top right corner of the page- or if you're logged in, you can follow this link: https://www.etsy.com/your/purchases

here is a longer download help article from etsy: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115013328108-Downloading-a-Digital-Item?segment=shopping

let me know if you're still having trouble accessing the file and i can send you a link to it.
