Hello and welcome to my shop. Thank you SO much for coming in to browse! As you will see I LOVE to create...and I have plenty of time to do it!!. Kids have grown up and left home but I still love to create!
Well, hello world! A writer I am not, this has been my darling baby daughter's job, until now! When we started this venture she took care of all the computer work: setting up the shop, writing the item descriptions and all of this 'social' stuff. Well, guess what? She got married and moved away, so now I am stuck with trying to do it even partially as well as she did!!!
My love of sewing began a little over 40 years ago. At the age of 10 I became proficient at making my own clothing - it was a matter of necessity then but it soon became a matter of choice because I LOVED doing it! It soon became a matter of pride to be able to craft anything that I could imagine. I remember as a teenager when people would discover that I had made whatever I was wearing they would say "Oh, it looks as good as store-made", of course thinking that they were complimenting me, and I would reply with an indignant "It's BETTER than store-made, it's hand-made!"
Over the years I have made wedding dresses (mine included of course) bridesmaids dresses, Renaissance costumes and a whole palette of other projects. When my 3 daughters were small I had a blast crafting them all matching dresses, etc. I am so glad that ruffles and lace were 'in' then.
Though the styles changed and the girls got old enough to have an opinion about their clothing, they still kept me pretty busy making the styles they liked, all the time striving to make it cheaper and better than the mass produced stuff. Through the years we have experimented quite a bit with reusing, upcycling, revamping or whatever else we could do to get more use out of something we already had or acquired from someone else. It really is true that 'necessity is the mother of invention'.
Along the way, because of my love of reusing old things, the art of quilting became interesting to me. I gave it a try and was completely in love! Every child born to any of my friends in the past 15 years has received a real, honest-to-goodness, pieced and hand quilted quilt, usually along with a few stories about where this fabric or that one came from!! It has been a tremendous source of satisfaction to be able to do that along with making each of my daughters and my husband all their own quilts. Oh, yes, I have one too - the first one I ever finished!
The aprons in my shop came along as a result of a graduation gift to one of the girls. We thought it was SO cute and decided to make some for the rest of us and that just kind of grew into trying to sell them at little craft shows, etc. and now on to the Etsy shop.
And crocheting has always been there in the background. For years, I made doilies and tablecloths galore - mostly through the time period when nobody knew what a doily was! So, when my friends at TwoGirlsPatterns developed their crochet patterns, I just had to give them a try. And, man have they ever been fun. I hope all who purchase them feel that way about them too.
