Very nicely made. I wore it on my tricorn hat as part of a full colonial costume for our Fourth of July Parade. Dared not give away its true historical use. Our side lost and some aren't over it YET. Will likely by more from this seller.

Lovely ribbons and the Georgia seal in the middle looks great. Has an authentic look and feel, perfect for reenactments.

About

Every Cockade Has A Story To Tell!

Every time I research a cockade design from history, I find a cool new story to share!

People wore cockades to support a cause, mourn the deceased, show their rank or just to be patriotic. Since many of them were individually hand-made (just like mine!) they have so much personality. I love trying to get "inside" the person who made the cockade, to see why they cared enough to make it and wear it.

As I discover their stories, I get excited about sharing the stories - through my cockades and through my weekly "Cockade Column" emails. If you'd like to hear some of the cool tidbits of cockade history I share, you can sign up here. (I promise not to spam you!)

Cockades have been around for centuries as a useful device for identifying yourself with a party or cause. Nearly all European nations have used them and they have a long history in the United States as well.

I have enjoyed finding out the symbolism in different colors and emblems. Cockades were made out of paper, palm fronds, ribbon, and cotton, just to name a few. Emblems in the center included military buttons, stars, slogans, pictures of famous people, cotton bolls and even seed corn!

I have tried to include a little history with each cockade description so that you can learn about these little tidbits of the past too. For more info and pictures of originals, check out my website at www.creativecockades.com.

I make many of my cockades in modern polyester ribbon for the budget-conscious history lover, but I am always happy to create any style in authentic silk ribbon. Just ask!
