Various stages of unfinish - still thinking about it!

University of Google, Trial and Error

I have always made things. Even when working as a doctor full time I still found time to make ham radios etc. I also made some sundials and promptly sold them. In retirement I wanted to devote more of my time to metalwork. However, the ability to remove a piece of someone's liver through their neck does not prepare one well for using a lathe or a mill. Hence the story headline :-)

As my skills grew so did my workshop. One day it was a garage, a year later it was full of tools. What to do with the tools? Is there a more useful object than a sundial in a town where it rains 367 days a year? That's where Etsy came in...

To widen my shop appeal I tried my hand at jewellery ("Why don't you make some bolo ties?") I got the bug and here I am.

Thanks to Etsy things progressed to the point of minor local fame:

For those interested in the process here is a video on making miniature sundials:

Shop policies

Last updated on March 16, 2016
Hi! Welcome to CRQUACK metalworking shop. I strive to produce items that are original and high quality using predominantly upcycled materials. Boring is a crime here! All the items I make are unique and handmade with the help of a few power tools. Given the nature of the process and materials minor imperfections are to be expected.

As with any activity there is (hopefully!) progress partly based on feedback. I strive for perfection but am well aware that I shall never achieve it. I encourage comments on my work and how I might improve. I strive for good business relations through excellent communication.

Accepted payment methods

  • Pay with Visa
  • Pay with Master Card
  • Pay with American Express
  • Pay with Discover
  • Pay with PayPal
  • Buy with Apple Pay
  • Pay with Sofort
  • Pay with iDeal
  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
I accept PayPal and Etsy-approved credit cards through Direct Checkout.

I do not charge any taxes, however, buyers may be required to pay import duties or tariffs in accordance with the laws of their country. I have no influence on these nor do I accept any responsibility for them.
Once payment is received the item is shipped within 1-3 business days. A shipping notification is sent once the item is in the mail.

I use Canada Post. The cost of shipping is high and rising. I, therefore, strive to find the cheapest method of delivery. This usually means that there is no tracking or insurance for items under $100. I am happy to discuss upgrades to shipping including a choice of carrier. Please send me a convo. Remember that the cost of these upgrades rises steeply, sometimes to a value several times of the item itself.

If there is an appreciable difference between what you paid for shipping and my cost of postage and packing I will refund it.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are unhappy for any reason with the purchased item please contact me within 7 days of receiving it. You will then have additional 7 days to ship the item back to me at your expense. I will issue a full refund minus the shipping after I have received the item in its original condition.

If the item is damaged I am happy to discuss alternatives including refund, replacement or repair, either free or at a nominal cost.

Please contact me if an untracked and uninsured item has not been delivered within 20 business days from the shipping date. We can discuss alternatives.
Additional policies and FAQs
I will include an information sheet with all my sundials which includes hints on how to set them up and how to care for them. This information is forever changing as I find new ways of manufacture, finish etc. The information can also be item-specific.

In general I advise to keep harsh chemical away from the jewellery. They are liable to destroy the finish and patinas. Where appropriate I will include a special cleaning cloth for bare metal surfaces.
