Every treasure that you find in Crystal Jewelry Affair was designed and created by me. Each magical piece is absolutely one of a kind and cannot be reproduced.

I'm René – and this shop is my life. Well this, and my other Etsy shop! I'm a full-time maker, and I've been selling for almost a decade on Etsy. I've created this shop for my specialized crystal jewelry, as I am a maker of many things. If you'd like to see my other work, or see the hundreds of positive reviews I've received over the years, please visit my other awesome shop! (Fem By Design) http://FemByDesign.etsy.com

More about my shop and pieces---
I like working with many different materials and techniques to design my jewelry.
All my crystals have been cleansed in the moonlight and charged in the sunlight. They surround me in my studio, with good intentions flowing into the stones before each piece is even created. I believe crystals are a tool for us to use. Intention is very powerful, and these beautiful pieces will help you on your journey.

If you have questions about my electroplating and electroforming techniques, please feel free to ask! This is an art form that has been around since the 1800's.
I have a secondary studio where I copper-plate my jewelry. To describe the process very quickly-- the plating process uses electricity to transfer jewelry-grade copper from sheet form, onto my crystal creations. It makes the jewelry extremely durable, beautiful, and one of a kind. Each time I electroform, the copper builds up differently. It's science and jewelry design at its best! Again, please let me know if you have questions about my process. It's fascinating.

I purchased this necklace because the shell reminded me of the one that Ursula worse in the little mermaid which keeps Ariel's voice. It is much more beautiful in person and I adore it!

Frequently asked questions

Does copper change color?

The color of freshly buffed copper is similar to rose gold. The nature of copper is to adjust to its surroundings, often producing a natural patina with time. Each piece tarnishes so uniquely, it's really unpredictable and a lot of fun. I do seal all my jewelry to slow this process down, but the color is likely to evolve over time. Some pieces I choose to rapidly darken by oxidizing the metal. These colors generally stay about the same over time.
Moisture, chemicals, and even the air can quicken the natural oxidation of copper, causing it to darken and allowing it to change with you on life's adventures.

We must embrace copper's natural healing properties and enjoy the uniqueness of each piece.

How will the copper affect my skin?

I seal all my pieces to help give them a barrier from moisture.

Copper has been used for healing throughout time and is perfectly fine for most people.

Sometimes copper can leave a greenish mark on the skin which can easily be washed off with warm water and soap. It is not hurtful to your skin, it's just reacting to your natural chemistry. Some people don't experience this at all. If your body does react by leaving a green mark, your piece can be easily sealed at home with a thin, even coat of clear nail polish in order to protect your skin and also preserve the longevity of your piece while staving off the affects of natural oxidation.

Can I wear my jewelry in the shower or swimming?

I would not recommend wearing any jewelry if you are going to be submerging yourself in water. Excess water can cause your copper to oxidize faster. Remove all jewelry before jumping in the shower or the pool!
With my own pieces, I remove them before washing my hands as well.

What is patina?

Patina is the natural color that forms on metal. The darker pieces that you see in my shop have been rapidly oxidized to bring out rich tones in the copper. I use Liver of Sulphur or an oxidizing liquid to do this. I then buff and seal the jewelry to give it a lovely contrast.
