Interpreting Natural Form through Crystalline Glazed Porcelain
Being inspired by nature, we interpret natural form through crystalline glazed porcelain. We focus on the delicate and fragile, choosing porcelain clay for it's fine grain, translucency and strength. Ronalee throws her forms on the wheel, making larger pieces in sections. She alters some pieces while wet, or attaches sculptural additions at the leather hard stage, or carves to emphasize the delicacy of the material. Alfred applies crystalline, celadon, and other non-crystalline glazes to enhance the individuality of each piece. The final accomplishment is a successful firing to about 2400*F.
We are dedicated to experimentation and innovation, with the eternal optimism it seems only potters possess. We have researched a variety of materials that promote and effect crystallization. A computer controls the firing process, stores and performs glaze calculations, although most knowledge is empirical. In addition, we are challenged by issues beyond craftsmanship and concerned with artistic growth. In the past decades our work has undergone change- both in technique and expression, but our goal remains: to create beauty in form, surface, and decoration.

Ronalee Herrmann
Owner, Maker, Designer, Potter, Partner
We work together, and it's a great partnership. I majored in Fine Art, and my ceramics work led us to focus on crystalline glazed porcelain in 1983. We love the challenge, and brainstorming together. Mostly I throw and carve; he glazes and fires.

After Alfred's many years running a construction business, we started our partnership in clay. His attention to detail and the technical aspects have contributed to the successful creation of one-of-a-kind crystalline glazed porcelain vases.
