About

CS King Jewelry - An alchemy of spirit

I grew up in the rural Midwest, and assumed that everyone marveled at sparkly granite field stones, red headed woodpeckers, wildflowers, and changing seasons.

(Insert long corporate career here. Which was where I learned that many people do not even notice migrating birds...or celebrate snow storms.)

I began making jewelry in 2008. I yearned for a working environment where awe for the natural world served to fuel my inspiration.

I claimed my independence, left my corporate job and its long commute in 2013, and now create jewelry full time on our quiet little sand hill in western Wisconsin. Living in the country, many miles from the nearest supply sources, I've come to trust the magic of alchemy in my design style: invention, unexpected materials and recycling are evident in my work, described as earthy and organic. I work primarily in copper and recycled metals, and each piece is one of a kind. You will find my work to be carefully crafted and hand finished, with meticulous attention to detail, durability and comfort. Dark roast jewelry - with no hint of bitterness.

It's easy to get lost in that noisy busy world out there. Wear a little individuality.
And check out a snowflake when you get a chance.

Additional policies and FAQs
I thought you might ask.............

ABOUT WEARING COPPER:

Q: "Will l be allergic to copper?"
A: Metal allergies are like other allergic reactions, they vary widely. Nickel is the most common irritant in jewelry, but copper is a pure element. It is not a combination of other metals and contains no nickel. Copper is an allergen for a few people, but if you can wear 14 karat gold or sterling silver, both of which are alloyed with copper, chances are pure copper won't bother you.

Q: "Will copper turn my skin green?"
A. My copper cuffs, pendants, and handmade chains are coated with jewelry-grade sealants to maintain their beautiul warm patina and to slow (and sometimes completely prevent) oxidation. However, as on any coated copper jewelry, those sealants can wear down over time. If the metal's oxidation colors your skin, please note that is not an indication of sensitivity or allergy, it is harmless, and it washes off easily. A little clear nail polish or high quality car wax can be used to easily re-seal the insides of cuffs and rings.

Q: What kind of sealants do you use on your copper jewelry?
A: I normally use a high grade jeweler's wax on any base metal links, chains, small areas where the application of liquid lacquer is impossible and on pieces that I want to have a low luster. It is invisible, does not feel waxy against your skin, and has durability similar to auto body wax.
On larger pieces (the backs of copper cuffs and on some large pendants) I may use a jeweler's lacquer, but it has a shiny appearance, so it isn't appropriate to the style of every piece.
