Announcement   Jingle Sale! Just this weekend, 10% off the shop so you can have a little extra jingle in your pocket.

Welcome to my world of artful, iridescent, dichroic glass jewelry. The color shifting glass is Art to wear. Perfect for gift-giving, beautifully hand crafted, ready to add happy color to your life!

I create my fused dichroic jewelry pieces individually, carefully choosing and blending colors and layering on gorgeous sparkly dichroic glass. Much as a painter would, using limited palettes and adding contrast. Kiln firing fuses the colors and then it is time to hand shape each piece. This takes time, and sometimes the shapes need adjusting after the second firing, and so I refine them again. I want to make matching earrings with unique shapes, so you truly have one of a kind pieces. Dichroic glass is beautifully iridescent--it looks amazing in natural light. My prices reflect the time, care, and excellent materials that go into each beautiful piece.

My jewelry will arrive in gift packaging. If you are ordering and mailing a gift to someone, please let me know and I will include a message from you.

Dichroic glass, invented as optical glass for space telescopes and the Space Shuttle, has thin layers of metal oxide fused to the surface by a complex and expensive firing process. Most dichroic has two colors--one transmitted & one reflected. I try to capture these colors in my photographs so you can get a feel for the wonderful light play that happens with the glass. However, it looks best in real life, as color on computer screens does vary.

I am happy to be a member of several fine Etsy teams, including the Creative Glass Guild of Etsy & Promoting Creative Friends. Etsy is more than just a marketplace, it a wonderful community of artisans! I am also a member of SRAJD: Self Representing Artist and Jewelry Designer, an international organization for independent jewelry designers.

Thank you all for visiting my shop and for supporting independent artists!

These ear rings are absolutely gorgeous and dance with sparkles of light. I love the petite size. I've ordered several things from CS Smart Glass and I've never been disappointed!

About

Artist of Color & Light

I worked in Art education for over 25 years until my job vanished during the recession. One of the subjects I taught at school was Jewelry Design--I wanted to add something fresh to the course, so I took my first glass fusing class.

Though my own first love as an artist was painting, I quickly "warmed up" to working with hot glass and began to experiment with it on my own. The shimmery reflective glass called "dichroic" captivated me. Dichroic was originally invented as an optical glass for space telescopes; it is made in a special vacuum kiln which leaves a thin metal oxide film on the surface.  The metal surface can have patterns, textures, and at least two colors (di=two, chroic=color) --the transmitted and the reflected.  I love to layer up  transparent dichroic glass  over colors, just the way I used to with oil paint glazes, only I have an additional element at play:  light! I do all of my work by hand--from the designing and shaping to the firing and finishing. I am wild for color and love to make vibrant combinations. My work tends to be abstract and intuitive. As a teacher and artist creativity and originality have always been dear to my heart, and all of my pieces are one of a kind.

I opened my Etsy shop originally as a venue for my students to see my own work, and also so that they could use the site as an educational resource to see what other jewelers were making. And I am still here!

Welcome to my shop! I hope you like my unique, colorful wearable glass art. I love what I do--I love the colors, the patterns, the way the light plays on the glass. I design, create and hand shape every single piece of glass--so your jewelry will be one-of-a-kind.

Here's a little info about the descriptions and jewelry.

All measurements of earrings and pendants are from the top edge of the ear wire to the bottom edge of glass., unless otherwise noted on the description. Width is measured at the widest point. Since I shape all glass cabs by hand, without molds, there can be a natural and slight variation in shapes. Handmade work, unlike factory work, tends to be a little more organic!

Though the photos show a view of the earrings or pendant, remember that dichroic glass not only transmits but also reflects color. So, you may get a little more than you see! In addition, the shimmering, changeable colors interact with each other and are enhanced by different light sources as well as natural skin tones. Also, computer screens and monitors will have color variations.

About pricing: I only post my best work, so the quality is high. I base my prices on the amount of glass used, time involved, number of firings, shapings (all done by hand), and layers I do, plus components (silver vs gold, which is more expensive), or sterling/gold filled, etc. Unless noted, ear wires are either .925 sterling silver or 14K gold filled. Bails are silver or gold plated and are quality items. Chains/cords are stering plated or satin.

SHIPPING & VAT TAXES: I ship USPS first class. I do not provide insurance, so if you wish to have it, please let me know and I will let you know what the Post Office' s fee for it is. International First Class does not provide tracking, so once a mailing leaves the U.S. I have no idea how long delivery by a foreign post office might take. ! International customers are responsible for paying taxes and customs fees.

I welcome CUSTOM ORDERS! Please convo me to describe what you would like. Because of the nature of custom orders, I do need to charge a bit more; earrings, for example, start at $35. Depending on my work load and whether I will need to order specific kinds of glass, custom orders can take anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks. Please order at least a month in advance if you need the items for a specific date; if it is an international order, please add an additional 2+ weeks to allow for the shipping time. Coupons may not be used on custom orders. Custom orders do need to be paid at the time the order is requested. Thank you!

Payment
You may check out using Etsy's Direct Checkout--which uses a credit card , Paypal, or Money Order (U.S.). Payment is expected at the time of your order. If you choose to pay with a money order--I will need to receive it, naturally, before I mail out your items.

For international orders, please pay with Paypal or credit card only. Buyer is responsible for paying any customs fees. Once mailings leave the U S, I have no way to track them or to guarantee their delivery. It will take several weeks for your item to arrive--times have ranged from 3 weeks to as many as 6 or more, depending on the country to which the item is being shipped.

Connecticut residents will need to pay the 6.35% sales tax, which will factor in automatically when you check out.

If you have any problems during the checkout process, please convo me right away and I will help you sort it out.

If you would like me to hold an item for you, I can do this too, for a few days. Just send me an Etsy convo and I will put a "reserved" notice on the item.

I do not provide insurance for items I ship. If you would like to purchase that, or upgrade to USPS Priority Shipping, for that matter, please contact me and we can set that up. If a customer buys several items, I will often upgrade to Priority Shipping.

All CUSTOM ORDERS must be paid for when the order is placed.

Thank you for supporting my work and for buying from independent artisans!!
Shipping
Once your payment has cleared, I will ship your item(s) to the address linked to your Paypal account or Etsy account unless you tell me otherwise. If it is a gift order, it is possible for you to enter the recipient's shipping address when you place the order, just click on the "new address" link. I ship USPS first class, which is fairly prompt. I usually ship the day after your order, unless it is the weekend or a post office holiday, or if we have a blizzard :))

If you wish priority shipping or insurance, let me know and I will tell you what the cost will be.
Refunds and Exchanges
My hope is that you will love your jewelry as much as I do! If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, I want to know! Please send me an email right away to tell me your concern. I will do everything I can to make your purchase a satisfactory experience for you!

Items may be returned within seven days of receipt (the 7 days is counted from the date your item arrived according to tracking data supplied by the U S Post Office). Please mail first class with tracking when you return the item, this is required. I will refund the purchase price of your item, minus the shipping. I do not refund shipping unless I have made a mix up. Item must be in original unworn condition.

Glass is, by nature, breakable. It is important to handle your jewelry gently. This being said, I have been wearing my own jewelry for many years and have not had an item break, even when it has been accidentally dropped. Small pieces of fired glass tend to be quite strong. I hold no liability for breakage or damage once the item leaves my possession and/or due to dropping or other misuse of glass jewelry.

I will do my best to package things carefully. However, in the unlikely event that something breaks during shipping, send me an email within 24 hours of your receipt of the item., please include a photo in your email. If it is possible, I will repair the broken item, or offer a substitution or a refund. If you wish to purchase shipping insurance, please convo me when you purchase your jewelry.

All items are unique! As dichroic glass is made in small batches, there are always slight variations in the color lots, registration, etc. And then the glass has variations in each firing as well. So a substitution/replacement would be as close as possible to the original item, but an identical copy is not possible.
Additional policies and FAQs
Regarding color: remember that the glass colors will shift a little in different lighting and as you move your head. This is the beauty of dichroic glass! The transparent glass has greater depth when held against skin, which is why I sometimes photograph it that way. I have done my best to capture accurate colors, but the color of dichroic glass is, by nature, shifting, elusive, and difficult to photograph. And the colors on computer screens also do vary.

Dichroic glass colors look much more amazing in person :))
